Hi All,

I have been lurking for a while and have to say a lot I have read has been extremely helpful.

I have been through quite a few menopause treatments, especially since my gp decided I needed to move to conti version of hrt. I had finally found something that worked for me, Elleste solo mx80 and utrogestan, all was going very well until it appears this last month I have become allergic to the patch, sore and extremely itchy to the point I have been ripping them off before they were due to be changed.

My gp, who I might add is lovely and a very understanding female doctor has now suggested Oestrogel but has admitted herself that she is confused about the dosage to use, she suggested I used 2 pumps in the morning which I have been doing but I have noticed my nights sweats are returning and I'm getting the odd flush during the day, I changed to gel on the 10th of this month so haven't been on it long.

So I was wondering could anyone tell me is 2 pumps nearly the same amount as the elleste solo mx80 ?

Thanks

Debs  :)

Not sure on dosage. I know when I changed from oestrogel to patches consultant had to work it out. In my case 2 pumps was equivalent to a 37.5 Estradot patch. Don't take that as how it work for you though. Could be your body adjusting to new regime.

Hi, can I just suggest you do a small patch test when you get the oestrogel. I have had some allergy to patches with itching but am putting up with it. I tried oestrogel and foolishly used one pump dose and smoothed it on my inner thighs as instructed, at night. By morning the skin was on fire and continued that way for nearly two days, I was having to use cool packs between by thighs whenever I could and antihistamine and hydrocortisone. Doctor thought I must be allergic to some of the bulking agent. I have now gone back to patches as the only other option is tablets which I don't really want to have. I tried femseven and Everol, both of which are quite large so more area to itch! I'm using estradot as they are the smallest (size was something my doctors didn't seem to realise!). Good luck.

I use Oetrogel and my doc suggested 2-4 pumps, I'm happy with just one, that I use at night.  I tried various configurations and this seems to suit me best. I tend to smooth it on my thighs (no issue with burning for me?), the back of my knees, inside arms and other places where the skin is thin. I do keep rotating this though so as not to get transdermal fatigue, where absorption is reduced.

Trial and error may help you on this?
