advice on food/snacks ?
« on: February 18, 2015, 09:30:41 AM »

Hi,

Can anyone give some ideas please! ?

When / if you get that awful background nauseous feeling and lost appetite what do you keep on hand?

I know I must eat else I will make matters worse ,tablets on empty stomachs, sugar dips etc. but I just don't want/ fancy anything. Been this way for 4 days and its not like me I love my food normally but the thought of a proper meal is beyond me.

What do others keep on hand for good, handy, snacks

Many thanks for any help x

Fennel tea and ginger biscuits help me. Toast and honey is another comfort food I like when my stomach is playing up. When you don't feel like eating it is tough - there have been some viruses sculling around this winter that seem to give slight nausea - horrid. I think it is very important to keep hydrated - so water or herbel teas can be a good idea. Hope you feel better soon.  Dg x

Porridge, cream crackers with butter, fish fingers, cheese on toast, fruit smoothies, hot milky drinks, protein bars - anything little and often. I quite often have periods of no appetite/nausea but have to force myself to eat, otherwise I feel worse.

Thanks will get stocked with some of those things.

Ian keeping hydrated ,feel like my tummy is swishing with all the liquid  :-\

It's a bit like a morning sickness but all day! Then I just had a weird craving for garlic mushrooms ! Sure that wouldn't be very suitable at this point.

I wonder if femoston conti mimics pregnancy? Very strange.

My best friend always used flat Cokacola [sp] and plain salted crisps.

As a 'recoverying' anorexic I have a huge list: because once I go off food I can't eat or drink anything  :'(

mixed bags of fruit and nuts to nibble
bananas - slow release energy
pancakes - mixture keeps a couple of days in the fridge
Dextrose tablets to stave off nausea
Very thin Readybrek
Milk shakes cold from the fridge
Spoonful of Bovril in hot water and toast - as I begin to recover appetite I add already boiled rice into the mug and sometimes frozen peas
Dry crackers
DH cooks thinly sliced chicken breasts with plain rice
Those bread sticks can help too …...

Digestive biscuits if I can cope with sweet food.  Otherwise Table water biscuits, ryvita, oat cakes...

I would agree with the 'little and often' comment.  That worked for me during chemo.  A plate piled high with food was always very off-putting.

I would eat whatever I fancied.  If you have a craving or garlic mushrooms, what's wrong with having a portion of those?
