Giving notice to cleaner
« on: February 18, 2023, 08:25:13 PM »

I have POA for my mother and employed a cleaner 18 months ago. She has been amazing, for one thing putting up with my difficult mother and doing more and more for her.  I do not live local so the cleaner has made my life an awful lot easier.
Next week my mother is going to move to care home, this has happened suddenly. I will send something to cleaner as a thank you from me but although she has no employment contract I feel we should give her some payment in lieu of notice. Has anyone done this before? I have no clue how much!

One month's wages? On the grounds that one month's notice is fairly standard.

Sorry that your Mum's situation has changed.  These issues are often 'in a hurry'  :-\

I agree: also she will probably have seen the deterioration so it might not be a surprise.  A 'thank you' card with hand written note saying pretty much what you have told us.  Is there an item in your Mum's home that she would like as a momento?

It would be nice to give her something to show how much she has helped and has been appreciated.

It sounds like you found someone great. I agree with the other suggestions. Giving her a months pay allows her time to find another client, and a Thank You card plus small memento to show that you've appreciated her help. You could also offer to provide a reference for her. to help her find another job.
