anxiety causes
«
on:

Can anyone tell me what causes anxiety during perimenopause?
Is it low estrogen or progesterone or an imbalance between the two?
I recently moved to a new hrt regime of utrogestan 1-25 days and estrogel and am finding an improvement in all my symptoms except the anxiety, especially on a morning.
Am wondering whether to drop to just one pump of gel a day? Or would three pumps be better?
So many questions!!

I can't advise on the HRT as I have never taken it, but from what I've read it's an imbalance of the two as high estrogen and low can both cause symptoms including anxiety. Peri is meant to be the worst part, once hormones stop fluctuating symptoms tend to settle down for most women, although flushes and sweats can continue for many years.
The above is only what I have read and not from personal experience.

I agreed with CG I think the fact that are hormones are constantly up and down during peri it is really hard to find a pattern. My moods and anxiety change by the hour sometimes, but like you I am worse in the mornings. I think I read somewhere that early morning is the time that our levels are at there lowest. I not sure about the science behind all this, but I am sure someone will be along soon to explain it all better.
Keep persevering with the HRT ( I am like you at the moment and have just started, I wanted instant releif ) but understand that all this takes time.
Keep telling yourself there is a light at the end of the tunnel, and once we are on the other side and our hormones have settled we will all feel wonderful

Thanks both
I do think this regime suits me better than the ones previously tried, I just hoped it would have some impact in this horrible anxiety. Essexragdoll, I hope you're right and wonderful times are headed our way, I just wonder what shrivelled, scrawny woman will be left by then! Xx

Eating regularly can ease the surges. That is, eating every 3 hours throughout 24/7, 7/52. It can be awful, for me it was sudden, intense, nausea = panic attacks

I am starting to realise that i need to eat regularly to stem the empty sicky feeling. I find if i eat sweet stuff it doesn't help but toast or dairy or protein does.

Yep. Slow release foods can help. Porridge, bananas, dried fruits and nuts …….. things that the body can take energy from ……...
