Itchy Skin!
« on: February 02, 2015, 01:37:55 AM »

After nearly 10 years of meno-symptoms most have calmed down, are not as intense and nothing like as frequent, but one thing has come back with a vengeance lately....itchy skin! I used to have it a lot in the first few years but nothing for the last few years, it's as if I get an itch, usually on my arms, which spreads around my upper body! I haven't changed my washing powder or softener, nor my bath products, I always use non-allergenic stuff because I have excema, but it's not that! Anyone else get this?

Hi Jules and Amanda, yes winter can have a drying effect which may be aggravating the itchyness, but I first had it at the start of meno so I suppose I connect it with that! It's completely different from excema itchiness though! I haven't had the spots, maybe you could try your excema cream on them?

Yep I get itchy skin, usually starts on my legs and then once I start scratching I feel itchy everywhere!
I moisturise every day after my shower and so I don't have dry skin but the itching continues and then I end up with sore skin where I've been scratching. If anyone has any solutions I'd be glad to hear. x

I get this too.  It's my latest perimenopause symptom.  It's normally worse in the evening.  Always on arms, legs and back.

Over the years of meno symptoms I've spoken to many friends and colleagues who also got the 'itchy skin syndrome' during peri-menopause and for a long time after. Mine faded away a few years back, and now for no reason I can work out, it's back intermittently! It feels like something is crawling on your skin, most unpleasant!

Hi. I don't feel anything crawling, but I got itchy skin a week after cutting my patches in half. I couldn't believe how much I was scratching my face. Its a bit better now after a few weeks, but my neck is still red and dry.

Agh the itchy skin is horrible although thankfully mine has calmed a bit for now although by no means disappeared - as I scratch my nose!  I also have eczema so it was important to find something that helped as I didn't want to make my skin worse and use steriod cream (not that steriod cream helped the itch).  I don't know if it's a coincidence but I have found Aveeno skin relief cream with menthol to be brilliant and I use Aveeno body cream instead of E45 as a general moisturiser.  Any other suggestions would be most welcome x

I tend to get it on my arms and legs mostly! I'm very nervous of trying anything new as most things tend to make my excema flair up!
