Fainty Feelings
« on: January 07, 2015, 06:42:23 PM »

Hi I think I read another post mentioning this but every day I get a feeling Im going to keel over, especially at lunchtime and after work I can be standing in a supermarket lunchtime or in a shop and have to hold onto the counter as I feel im going to go, at the end of the day when I take the office mail Im in the post office holding again onto the counter, its not like I don't eat to try and keep my sugar level up, I eat snacks in the morning, fruit, biscuits, chocolate bar, crisps or similar, even eating a bar of something when I leave the office both at lunch and at five to try and stop it, I don't know if its hormone related but its horrible x ive had blood pressure taken and  its usually ok but sometimes on the low side, but not always x

Poor you :(

I guess there are several reasons to feel faint and menopause could be one of them.

I recently experienced a couple of weeks where I had episodes of feeling faint and after a number of investigations it looks like they were caused by low oestrogen. I increased my HRT (as instructed by my GP) and I've not suffered since.

Horrid whilst it lasted as I didn't really want to go out in case I actually passed out, especially after feeling faint whilst driving!

Hope you feel better soon x

Hi karenja

I regularly get feelings like this but not every day! I'm sure it's hormone related. I had a chat about all my various minor symptoms with my nice female gynae GP last time I went and she seemed to think they were mostly due to menopause and depleted hormones generally, despite being on HRT.

However, if you have low blood pressure then this can also cause these symptoms especially on standing up suddenly. It's called postural hypotension
http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Blood-pressure-%28low%29/Pages/Symptoms.aspx

That website suggest that if you are getting these symptoms often then do visit your GP - even if you've had your blood pressure measured before, especially as you say it is happening every day.

You would know if it was caused by low blood sugar because these feelings are completely different. By the way eating chocolate bars and biscuits are not good for regulating blood sugar because they stimulate insulin production and can lead to insulin resistance. Much better to eat foods that release carbohydrate slowly - known as foods with low glycaemic index eg wholemeal snacks (digestive bscuits,  wholewheat crackers, apples etc - you can look up foods with low GI on the web!

For me it was the worse anxiety symptom to the point of not standing in a queue....ever. I would shop with hubby and then go to the checkout and leave him waiting and I would either go back
to the car or wander till he was served and then go back and help to pack. I was ok on the move but don't ask me to just stand there.

The way I coped with it was to get my mobile out and start to browse. I looked at my photos or read my old texts. I just kept on doing it over and over and now I'm not too bad at all.
I tell myself I have never fainted once....not ever so it's very unlikely I will now.
Just keep plugging away. Find your own coping tequnique and do that, whether it's a phone or a magazine. It's all about managing things.

One of my other things is driving.....used to love it and now I hate it. Now I know this sounds totally daft and some will laugh but I have to drive to my mothers a good few times a week. I had an eleastic band around my wrist and if I got jittery and started to panic I snapped the band. It hurt but it focuses the mind. I have used it in shops too.

As I said its finding ways to bring your panic.....and yes that's what it is....under control, no matter how weird and wonderful your method is.
