You don't need to wean yourself off estrogen - just stop taking it/remove the patch. Sorry it didn't work out for you - I would recommend cognitive behavioural therapy - it's wonderful for helping you to deal with anxiety.

Thanks for all your very helpful replies im going to take the edtràfot patch off tomorrow and see how it goes yet again! I've got starflower oil may start that got to be careful mixing herbal things though as my gp frightened me telling me they could be quite dangerous if mixed yet I saw a homeopath who recommended all sorts at the same time- I had a bad experience with citalopram and also don't want to feel in a stiper bit like I do with the ultrogestan as I find it a struggle in work - how do other ladies coping with work? Also being anxious it's hard to get through the sèttling in/side effect period whatever I try but I've got to find sonething xx

I was given lorazepam to use on an as needed basis - it was a lifesaver for me when my anxiety was at its worst! Especially useful for trying ad's etc! I was given a supply of 30 - I only ever took half a tablet and never more than three times in a week. The supply lasted me 18 months and I have a new 30. I now very rarely need them but do use them for flights etc. it could be an option to see you through starting an ad and they do not zonk me out at all - they just make me feel normal. Please do consider cbt though - I was very sceptical but it changed my life and freed me from panic and anxiety.

Thanks Suzq, Is that the same as valium as I was given some of these for emergencies last time I went to the gp along with another ad (not citalopram the name escapes me) its in the drawer for now, cbt has mentioned and ive got a leaflet from the doctor to do this online (www.livinglifetothefull.com) so need to look into that too, need to start trying other things that may help me x

Hi Karenja, I also take citalopram 10mgs prescribed for menopause symptoms when HRT wasn't an option.  You do have to give it time but it has helped me, I am older than you and post menopause and of course we are all different in how we tolerate medication but if you are desperate anything is worth a try. Hope you find a solution that helps soon.

It's similar to Valium but has a much shorter effect so I find it good for me! Generally lasts 7-8 hours and leaves your body quickly. I understand you are reluctant to try new medications etc so I do feel therapy is the right approach for you - even if it only frees you up enough to try different approaches. I agree with others, ad's take time to work - maybe you can only try them if you are signed off work for a short time
