Vaginal atrophy and red blood cells in urine
« on: December 19, 2014, 03:17:50 PM »

Hello Ladies,

I was wondering whether any of you suffering from vaginal atrophy found that you had normal urine tests (i.e. no red blood cells) once you were being treated with Vagifem/Gynest etc., Does anyone know whether we should expect this to happen?

All thoughts gratefully received!

Hi Jenna
I've been having treatment with local oestrogen for VA for over a year but I'm still presenting with blood in my urine.  I saw a Urologist and had a  cystoscopy and was told I probably had some interstitial cystitis in my urethra.  Many ladies who visit this site have the same problem.
Many women are treated with antibiotics as they get constant UTI type symptoms.
The Urologist didn't seem unduly worried that I had blood in my urine - I suspect as we get older it may be pretty normal.
Though the local oestrogen has helped the constant burning urethra I have gone back on systemic HRT and still using Vagifem twice a week alongside.  The burning and discomfort does seem to be much improved.

Hi Dancinggirl,

Thank you so much for sharing your experiences with me - it was very helpful.

I hope that you continue to feel much better - it can be a miserable condition at times, can't it!

Best wishes, Jx
