Really weird question - pee
« on: December 19, 2014, 11:40:12 AM »

I know this is going to sound weird and prob TMI but does anyone else's urine smell of sesame oil? This has been the case for me for a few months now. (I haven't eaten any and my doctor looked at me as if I had lost the plot when I told her.) I can't figure out if it's my sense of smell has changed, or my urine actually smells like that. It's not a problem as such, just curious  :)

Hi Christina

when my periods started to reduce I noticed a smell change too.
My dh noticed first and was concerned I may have had an infection.

Since being on HRT this smell has gone away.
Before HRT I was planning my journeys around where a toilet was as my capacity to hold on was reducing drastically.
Now thats almost back to normal too.
Wish I'd started earlier to avoid that (if the doc had explained this could happen)  ???

Just to be safe, get to the doc and get them to get a sample sent off to culture for anything nasty.

I don't have a clue what sesame oil smells like but I do notice my urine has a smell at times which it never used to, however I have no other symptoms and it isn't all the time so I just put it down to one of those meno things (along with numerous other ones)  :)

If you are worried take a sample to the surgery and ask them to test it for nasties.

My pee really smelt of sesame a few weeks ago when I tried to cut out wheat and was eating a lot of rice cakes. It was really quite alarming. Some of the rice cakes were sesame flavour and I put it down to that. I stopped eating the rice cakes and the smell went. I was googling like crazy and I think there were a few people on mumsnet who had commented that their pee smelt after eating rice cakes. Have you been eating anything different? I have recently been diagnosed with interstitial cystitis and sometimes my pee smells like boiled bacon  ???

I haven't eaten anything different (or rice cakes) and there's no infection or anything, must be just another weird and wonderful meno thing (?).

Is it every pee or the early morning 1? which is often darker and more smelly.
