They all seemed to be addressed to him so yes he seems to be very very old.
Wasn't quite sure what happened to the older nurse. Had she taken pills or what and why did no one remark on all the water.

No, she almost looked as if she had been electrified, were her fingers all black? A really old fashioned ghost story. Off to bed now everyone, night night, hope there are no dripping taps or things going bump in the night
