I don't make traditional christmas cake any more as children all grown-up and gone - no-one eats it so we get left with it - however I used to decorate it with glace cherries, angelica and blanched almonds on top of ordinary glace icing which I put onto a thick layer of marzipan ( he best bit!). Sometimes I used to make marzipan balls or choccy marzipan logs out of the remaining marzipan, and put a tiny ( very old) plaster Santa in the middle - so it all looked rather bright and jolly! Probably outdated now but I liked it!
Well we have put the decorations up now! Not the main greenery though - all the ivy and holly. That will wait another couple of days and we will bring the tree in soon and decorate it probably on 23rd. Have made and frozen the chestnut stuffing, spicy red cabbage, made and bottled the cranbery conserve. wrapped most of the presents, sent the cards yesterday. Mince pies and cake still to make and other goodies...Parcels gone off to family who aren't coming... other family starting to arrive in a couple of days, beds all made up - now feeling festive
