Dry Hair
« on: September 28, 2014, 10:51:41 AM »

Hi all.

New to this...... hot flushes are a nightmare!  The discussions on here have been really helpful and I now know Im not going mad!  already started on some of the suggested tablets, hope they work.  Not the worst issue but a pain non the less is my dry hair!  With already spending money trying out various herbal remedies I  don't want to spend a fortune on the masses of hair care products out there.  What's working for you?

:welcomemm:  we have lots of topics, we even talk about menopause sometimes  ;)

I use various shampoos depending on how the hair feels: baby shampoo is the one I grab for when it needs a quick wash, in the shower I have various types ……. also having a good cut is important - some people use vinegar, beer or lemon juice as a final rinse: dependant on whether you don't mind smelling like a chippy, a pub or …………  ::)

Thanks, I'll certainly give the baby shampoo a try.

So the many many shampoos for 'mature women' and extra moisture brands etc are not worth trying at all?

Taking a fish oil supplement will help your hair too.

Some of the deep moisture shampoos leave my hair heavy & greasy as do some 2 in 1 shampoos. Tresemme works well with my hair, I have to say.

Everyone is different. Occasionally use a deep cleansing one if it starts getting overloaded with products.

My hairdresser recommended almond oil. Rub a few drops into your hair and scalp before you go to bed (tie it back loosely if it's long enough) and then shampoo and condition it in the morning. It's an excellent conditioner, and cheap too - a small bottle lasts for ages.

I only use pantene clarifying shampoo, and then Garnier Ultimate Blends Lemon with Green Tea conditioner.

For added shine I use Schwarzkopf GLISS spray Shine Tonic, works every time and my hair looks healthy and shiny.

Plus what HB advises, omegas 3 and 6 capsules.

My hair is curly and tends to get dry a lot. I use argan oil apply to damp hair , just rub a few drops to palms. You can do this every time you wash your hair. I use Elseve total repair shampoo and hair mask . I do change shampoos on and off as I know hair gets used to one type and it becomes ineffective. I usually varry within the Elseve line or L'Occitaine ( a bit expensive so very rarely).

Vit A and E are good for hair strength. Ive heard olive oil applied as hair mask works miracles but have never gotten the guts to try it.

Warmed olive oil ........... would need to use a very old towel  ::) ......... rinsed off with tepid water, sounds relaxing to me.  Now where can I find someone to ........ that's why I love treating myself to an hour in the hairdressers  ;)

Have been using shampoo only every 3rd wash for years (I wash my hair everyday), and in between washing with just conditioner.  However,  lately my hair has been getting drier and drier, but as luck would have it I found a product whilst on holiday in St Ives which seems to be doing the trick.  It's a shampoo soap bar which is made from purely natural stuff, with no silicone or other rubbish.  I was advised it could take up to 8 washes to make a difference, but after only 4 the improvement is amazing.  My hair has not been this soft for years and I have not had to use a ton of product to make it behave.  The shop has a website www.cornwallsoapbox.co.uk, and the shampoo soap bars are £4.50.  This might seem a lot but the bar is so hard I'm sure it will last for ages.

Could be worth a try.

Hi Evie

Here is a thread I started some while ago on which you may find some useful tips.

http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,23889.msg364323.html#msg364323

Personally I would advise against any products which contain sodium lauryl/laureth sulphate (which is basically detergent).

My trichologist warned against using baby shampoo - can't remember why though.  Can't say I've ever been tempted anyway - it's not designed for adult hair.

I'm a big fan of argan oil which I rub into wet hair after I've just washed it (in SLS-free and paraben-free shampoo, of course).  Plus Lamberts Maxi-Hair supplement.  I'm sure his has helped my hair look more vital.

Ive been doing the following and i promise its fantastic- body shop  hair and skin shea oil mixed with a big big dollop of olive oil into dry hair. Gentle rub/ comb then put your hair into one of the cheap supermarket turbans for at least an hour or overnight if poss. In the morning shampoo twice and condition then dry using what you normally use. Soft shiny hair
