« on: August 03, 2014, 11:48:56 PM »

after years of being told i have av, now all of a sudden i have vulvodynia.... has anyone else been told this recently.. and i have been prescribed instillagel (lidocaine gel)  , anyone else use this. im confused now.  i have been told to stop using my vagifem and use moisturisers, and the constant burning is driving me nuts, every three hours im having to lubricate. gone are the days when i was free for the day of having no burning... fed up...

I can understand your frustration but it's good that you have now got a diagnosis as to what's wrong. Have you been given advice on vulvodynia and what it means? You might find others with this condition posting on this thread http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,22886.0.html  Apologies if you are already posting on it - I haven't checked.

There is also a vulvodynia forum which may be helpful? http://vulvodyniasupport.forumotion.net/

Hi Helen

just for clarity - does the vagifem work for you - you mentioned "i dont have any trouble for three days" - so was/is vagifem helping the pain and burning?

If its helping then why is doc sending you off on the non hormone route?

Is your doc another who doesn't like the hormone solutions and isn't listening to what you want and need?

I take it that you have been diagnosed by a specialist and not just the GP?

Hi, thank you for your replies...  i was having a sticky patch with my vagifem.. it works but was experiencing a little soreness where the pessaries touched the skin..  but thought i would get things checked up to be on the safe, have considered changing over to gynest cream,  i think maybe i would benefit using the cream extra lubricating maybe. i have noticed even the skin on my legs, is getting thinner, and wrinkly yuk.. lol.. so maybe im getting drier..  i was referred to a gyne at the local hospital, this registrar suggested i should come of it and go on the non hormone route, now i appreciate their argument, but she then asked her senior and her senior said no at my age the non hormone route would not work..  and to take vagifem every day. till i came back to see her in three months.. this i didnt do, i chose to do either every other day, or towards the ends three times a week. on my return visit, i didnt see the same gyne, but a new one who said she had taken over.. She said what was i doing and were they all trying to kill me and give me cancer, and that i should stop immediately and use moisturizers. i managed for three weeks then i had just had enough of the constant applying. re did the first 14 days of vagifem, great no trouble no pain.. then i had to stretch it out to to twice a week, its then when i start to get difficulties again.. but on my return she didnt examine me at all, and said i had vulvodynia, and that i should try sensilube or ubalube and the anesthetic gel..  i said i wasent happy with this, but i would give it a go, she wasent even going to give me a follow up.. when i asked see you again in six months , its crazy ..

hellen:

Do you still have an estring around?  Maybe this might be a good time to try it out again if you are game for it? In the mean time...can you get another doctor? So sorry this happened to you....that  burning pain is just awful to deal with on a daily basis.
