Off HRT now
« on: July 26, 2014, 04:00:24 PM »

Not feeling great have been off HRT for just over a week only taking starflower oil 1000mg which I have taken for 3 days. I'm dripping hot day and night, not sure quite what is going on at the moment as the weather is humid and hot and I also seem to have picked up a cold so fingers crossed it improves.
Anyone else out there who has come of HRT and found things even out or hopefully improve in time, in desperate need of encouragement  :'(

Hi sohot
I came off HRT 9 months ago and I'm finding this humid weather horrendous.  It's a shame you've come off HRT in the summer as I don't think it's easy to tell whether its hormonal or just the weather.
Through the winter months I was doing quite well so I'm pretty sure the weather is the main culprit for me - it's just I sweat in the face and head so much more now than when I was on HRT.
Goo luck.  DG x

Yes Dancinggirl, while everyone is enjoying this beautiful weather we are having i am so miserable just sitting around in front of the fan most of the day, dripping wet all night and not sleeping, you are right about it being the wrong time to try and come off!
Stellajane, do you find that when you go back onto HRT it takes a while to work? which one are you on? I am the same there are points when I come off and start back on that I actually feel acceptable (never great) but symptoms are relieved but then I find some HRT I have taken just make me so tired, bloated and tearful I can't stand feeling like that either. I wish my doctors were more interested, I feel alone and find I pretty much have to try and research myself and go along and tell them what i want but I am no expert and actually probably shouldnt really be taking HRT with the fact I have fibroid and history of endometriosis but what else is there to help with these awful symptoms! I have 3 diaries upstairs full of miserable symptoms and failed trials and fails of natural remedies and HRT. Get so depressed sometimes  :'(

Hi sohot

Sorry to hear you are feeling miserable especially in this hot weather.

The right HRT should not make you feel tired bloated and tearful although continuous progestogens may well do so, but you would probably need this (due to your fibroid and endometriosis) in order to take oestrogen. I can't remember if you've been referred to a gynae or meno specialist who might be able to help?

Thank you, yes I said to myself yesterday I might go back to doc this week and tell them how long I been suffering and trying different things can they refer me. Because I don't know that I can manage without any help, all things seems daunting, the only thing I enjoy sadly is going to the supermarket because it is so cool there! Never thought that would be the highlight of me week, certainly considered it a chore for so many years! ::)
Do the doctors perscribe the gel prog?

sohot - have your tried having a Mirena fitted so you can then use oestrogel or patches.
I had a Mirena for 4 years post meno and found it the best option.  It would keep your other problems at bay as well.  DG x

Yes Dancinggirl I have had merina coils in the past for endo and heavy periods but was glad finally to not have to have anymore don't think I want that anymore at this time in my life again I found I felt tired bloated etc. I must have a problem with the progesterone. Looking at the HRT preparations they seem to have varying amounts of progesterone I wonder if I went for one with the lower amount would be better but then again I don't want to aggreivate fibroid and endo.
I am at a dead end it seems will just carry on without for now and see how long I can stand it I suppose eventually we have to go without at some point  :-\

Have you tried the ultra low Femoston conti?  The progesterone in Femoston is often tolerated well by many ladies and the ultra low apparently still offers some relief?

Yes Dancinggirl, last year I took ultra low Femoston conti, well I say it was that but my doctor actually gave me the higher dose and it didn't get rid of my hot flushes, I must say though now you come to mention it, i didn't feel so tired or bloated but I took it for 3 months and the flushes didn't improve so didnt want to keep pumping it round my body if not helping! I have made an appointment for this Thursday to see doctor, will be interesting what they say but i might mention Utrogestan, which I have read women seem happy on and then possibly the estradot patch, which I have had in the past when I had a merina coil but then my flushes weren't so intense then  ::) what is oestrogel?

Sohot, did you come off the HRT gradually or did you just stop. I came off gradually for 6 months and had no major return of symptoms.

Well the intention was to come off gradually so I was cutting the patch in half (even though the phamacist said not to) but flushes already coming back so I only did that for just over a week because I thought the half wasn't actually holding the flushes off why still put them on ! Last night for the first time since I can remember I slept from around 11.30 to 6.00am. Can't believe how different it feels to have had sleep but yesterday I was so so tired I guess just so exhausted in the end. I remember before , I suppose when I was going through peri HRT would help quite quick it all takes so long now to take effect i am reluctant now to go back down that path. Thankfully the weather is a bit cooler for now so getting some relief in all directions so one day at a time! Are you back on HRT Bramble? how long does it take for it to work for you once you go back on? Some people have said quite quickly for me thats not the case! ?
