ovarian cyst
« on: July 26, 2014, 09:19:40 PM »

I had a operation 6 months ago to remove 2 polyps. When I came to from the anaesthetic, the doctor said I had a ovarian cyst, which they would keep an eye on, because of my age (55). I haven't heard a thing from the hospital, but just wanted to check with you ladies, since my op, I've had hot flushes, can the cyst cause hot flushes, or is it just menopause? Has anyone had similar problems?  xx

Hello Jules - I too have ovarian cysts they keep an eye on - I am 53.  I have had the cysts for many years - way before my periods stopped.  I would assume therefore the hot flushes are menopause related rather than cyst related.  I could be wrong of course but that's my experience xxx

Are you on HRT? They can be caused if there is not a correct balance between the oestogen and the progesterone, ie, if you are using cyclical hrt and perhaps not using the progesterone part for long enough, as in Utrogestan for example. Odd that they didnt remove it whilst you were under, they can tell if they are simple or worrying cysts so obviously, were not too concerned, they generally disappear after a while or can hang around for years.

I had an ovarian cyst when I was aged 36, it was removed via keyhole surgery as it was 15cm in size, I was told before the op that there would be a possibility that they would have to remove the ovary along with the cyst and they did as the ovary was engulfed by the cyst. I am now 50 I have been having menopause for around 5 years approx, at it worse right now but I didn't have any menopause symptoms at that point after the op but you are menopausal age being 55 so it could be just coincidence. Why don't you pop back to find out what the doctor says just to give you peace of mind.

I arrived on this Forum via 'ovacome' a UK-based charity.  You could e-mail them any concerns and the  magazine is very informative.

Thank you ladies for your replies, it's nice to have someone to share your concerns with. Cassie no I'm not on hrt, never had anything, perhaps it's just a coincidence that I started to get the hot flushes after the polyectomy. The doc said it's a different operation to have a cyst removed, which is why they didn't remove it when I was under. Now I understand what the menopause feels like l. xxx
