Hi Karenja,
Sorry to hear about the tough time your having ,I started HRT about 2.5 months ago I too started with ellest duo felt fine until the progesterone tablets then felt real anxious bleeding started 4 days into the next packet it was terrible .I have had an over-active thyroid in the past and I know What anxiety is !!!! i had chest pain palpations gross anxiety ,GP s kept telling me all as OK as  I was borderline i saw a endocrinologist privately after been put through ever cardiac test possible and all was OK .  was treated for l thyroid  problem and after a year or so my thyroid went under active much easier to treat  .maybe you should have your thyroid checked they missed my problem for years.

I am now on tridestra which only gives you a bleed every 3 months was great until this week and my anxiety is back but just in the morning and it goes by 11am but its so horrible I understand how upset you must feel,
When I was at my worst I went to see a CBT councillor this helped a lot and I still use the breathing exercises etc..
MY GP gave me diazapam  5mgs for when the anxiety is bad .I am not keen to use them as it goes as the day goes on but when I was really bad in the past they were great maybe they would help until you find the right hrt.
hoping you feel better soon xx :)

Edwina - have you tried taking the Valium before you go to sleep to help ease that awful anxiety surge?  or eating a biscuit before getting out of bed?  It could be low blood sugar causing the surges ………

Also - the 'proper' approach with our GPs is important  ::) ……. taking a list and asking to 'work' through your symptoms can help, as can seeing the Practice Nurse to see what the general menopausal support is like …… if my GP seems a bit 'off' I go back a week later: "I was a bit dopey last week and didn't listen to everything you told me" usually works!

Hi CKLD. thank you for advice I have tried a biscuit and this has helped,I do take the diazapam at night if my anxiety is bad but it seems to be in the morning on waking that I get panicky ,After saying that I was fine this am ,but a friend advised me to eat a banana before I went to bed ... don't know if it worked or not.
I have just given up work and was a nurse practitioner for 15 ys and a practice nurse before this  sometimes I think this makes things worse as the GP assume I know stuff but I don't always   .
Plus i feel if i question them to much i see the look of " she:s a nurse telling me my job " lol

Hi I have tried all types of stuff, everything you have tried and more, have you ever had your tsh levels checked for thyroid function, it may be part of it, I have just gone on the conti duet, and it knocked my thyroid level out really bad, been in bed for 4 days. Only way I can describe the pain is awful awful awful.  Not much help I know, Chinese herbal I tried those and I heard they can be quite dangerous.   I hope you find peace. And cool.

thank you for all your replies, I haven't been on here for a while the doctor has stopped everything and Im just on one stress tablet per day that's all, I cant even use bachs rescue remedy for the anxiety as mixing too much can be dangerous, still getting anxiety and with mine too its either in the middle of the night or first thing in the morning or evenings its worst, ok really in work as im so busy, living alone doesn't help, is anybody else in this position?

You could practice deep breathing techniques in the mean time?

Hi - I'm on Citalopram and have had very few if any side effects but have never been told I can't take herbal remedies whilst on it!  I don't use them a lot just occasionally so maybe that's why it's not caused me any problems.

Lady D: Some herbal preparations can interact with prescribed medications!  Do you tell your prescribing practitioner that you are taking them?

Thanks and yes I now some can, just strange my GP hasn't mentioned it.  They have however given me info on herbal remedies for the menopause!  All very confusing and worrying :(  But I will double check before trying anything herbal.

Hi Karenja, I agree that many herbal remedies are not safe to use alongside prescription meds, but  I am pretty sure Rescue Remedy is fine, I am on a few meds and have used RR for some time with no problems.  Magnesium can be good also as it has a calming effect and is good for sleep.  I use the transdermal oil, I will say though that I blamed that for making me feel lousy when all my symptoms started a few months back, I doubt that was the case though, however it could've been that I was using too much too quick, if you do decide to get some, start slowly, 4/5 sprays per day and build it up gradually.  I did try B6 but found that increased my anxiety.  Not tried HRT as yet.  I do take some diazepam daily though as like you anxiety is the worst symptom I have.  I live alone to, although I do have a teenage son who lives in a room next door, he will visit now and then.....Christmas, birthdays and when hungry :)
