Is this normal and should I worry?
« on: July 03, 2014, 08:01:20 AM »

So here it is what it is. I have been on femoston 2/10 for two months now. At the end of the first month, I got my bleed on Day 4 of the new pack. The bleed was shorter and lighter than usual - lasted 2 and 1/2 days. 4 days before and 4 days after the start of the bleed I felt really down, depressed, despair, tearfulness, nausea. Now the second month - i am now on Day 5 of the new pack and still NO BLEED. For 4 days now I feel the same as previous month - depression, despair, tearfulness, back pain, nausea, want to hide and cry all day! For some days I get some spotting but this is all - definitely no period!

Should I worry? Is this notmal? I am perimeno  and 43. Will be visiting  my doctor this afternoon so any advice will be appreciated. I know he will say wait another month but I want to be prepared in case he is open to discuss a change in the HRT. What are your thoguhts?

Thanks a million!

Early days Milamam.  It takes time for the body to adjust and as you are peri meno your own hormones will fluctuate and influence things. I think it takes some time for the benefits on the emotional side of things improve. If in a couple more months you are not feeling better emotionally then some ADs could be a good idea. A colleague of mine at work has been put on Citalopram 10mg and is a new women!!

DG,,that's what I am trying to convince myself - wait a bit more and things will get better.  I really hope so!

Just came back from the doctor and discussed this - he said it is normal to have only spotting on femoston, this means that without HRT I would have probably not gotten any bleed at all this month. So I shall count the spotting as a period. He said that with femoston I may be skipping bleeds, too, so not to worry.

Then the woman who babysits for me when I have to go out, told me that when she was taking BCP a long time ago, she suffered with awful nausea. Which explains why I am sick and miserable on the second half of the month (on the progesterone part).. The question now is shall I persist a month more or shall i ask to change HRT? could a Mirena for example be a beyter option for me since it seems that I feel bad on the progesterone?

Thanks

Milamam- I took the combined HRT at first but the progesterone part gave me awful migraine and
nausea so I now have the mirena for the progesterone and estrogen gel.
As you have only just started perhaps just give it a bit longer if you can.
It took 4 attempts to get me on the right treatment.
There's not one that fits all I'm afraid. ::)
See how you go and what you can put up with, but if things are too much, then the mirena or some other form of HRT might be suitable for you. :)

Sorry meant to say that I haven't been on the HRT you are on so have had no experience of it.
As Dancinggirl said, it takes time for your body to adjust.

Mirena could be an option but give Femoston a bit longer to see if things settle.  Dg x

Dyan, DG,,thank you for the encouragement! I'll definitely be on femoston for another month but will probably take the pill in the evening not in the AM as I just read last night this can alleviate nausea fron HRT. So will try. Dyan, how did you feel when you changed to Mirena? Also would Mirena work for perimeno ? Isn't it continuous progesterone ?

Thank you so much again! It is really god bless to find this forum and be able to communicate with all of you!

Mirena is good in both peri and post meno stages. In peri it will calm down heavy periods and eventually the bleeds will stop altogether.  Yes it is continuous but its a small dose absorbing locally so in theory should cause fewer side effects - although some women who are very sensitive do still get some progesterone intolerance even with the Mirena.
I personally think your doctor seems to be on the ball about things, so stick with Femoston fro a bit longer and see if things settle.  If you get little or no bleeding then that means your lining isn't building up which is good.
