Hi there ladies, Been doin the peri meno for 5 years and among other issues I have pigmentation issues on my face. I have the batman sign over my eyebrows and a mustache shadow over the top lip. I am quite fair and tan easily, despite factor 50 these days and a hat. having tried a number of over the counter products which did nothing at all I then tried IPL with some limited success and more recently a Dermascutical Peel process. www.dermaceutic.com/en/professional-products/spot-peel.html The main issue is that all I have to have is one missed menstrual cycle, which I do every third go , and the pigmentation has returned. These processes are expensive, time consuming and the peel is quite irritating to other parts of my face and has some downtime. I understand that the places I have the pigmentation are classic mask of pregnancy areas. I'm not on any HRT at the moment and wonder if it would help my face? In so many ways I feel the most attractive that I have ever done, but the marks on my face can be really undermining and the cost of maintenance is prohibitive. Any ideas people?

For me, HRT increases pigmentation.  I love my CC cream which sort of hides it.

I agree with Trey & silverlady.
Where I put my sandrena gel each day there is now pigmentation on my thighs.
Never had it there before.
I have it on my face but I wouldn't say it has got any worse there.

I tired Retinol and that sort of cream and it seemed to work for while, but the blotches always come back when I stop. I just sort of mute them with the light CC creams that do wonders to smooth out complexion without the heavy makeup look.  It is really a very light application and blends everything in without that made up look.  I use copious moisturizers as we live in the desert of Tucson, AZ.

Trey The thought of living in arizona sounds good, i love the heat, i imagine its a really dry heat and dusty. Whats it like?


what type of moisturisers work best in desert towns? I like mineral make up for covering my pigmentation, ive used jane iredale for years.

We are moving to the high Colorado Rockies as we are tired of the wind and  dust of the Tucson desert.  It has gotten worse each year and now it is hard for my allergies and slight asthma.  Also there is an airborne fungus called Valley Fever, which can make one terribly ill.
I need clean air and the ability to be outside.  My new husband has fallen in love with a mountain town I have lived in before, so we will give it a go.

We have to drink loads of water at high altitude so that is the same as the desert.  But the air is fresh.

I use Cerevae for body and Oil of Olay for face and CC cream for wrinkles and light make up.

I think HRT makes pigmentation worse.  I have tried several lightening creams, but the CC is now the only thing I use as it looks just fine or at least good enough.

For very dry skin I can recommend Ultimate Organics Extra Virgin olive Oil for very dry skin, its fantastic, the best body cream I have tried and can be used for the face too. You can get it on amazon (com and uk) it would certainly help with the desert and the high Rockies climate.

We seem to be getting a lot of humid weather here at the moment, that's not too good for the health either, though it is good for the skin.

Keeping out of the sun is the only way to control Hyperpigmentation as well as being vigilant with hormones if you are prone to Hyperpigmentation.

Recently saw a menopause specialist at Northwick Park Hospital,Harrow. I asked about the pigmentation and the possible response HRT might have. It could make it worse in the short term, the stabilisation phase, then the melanin production should stabilise, along with everything else.
At that point it might be cost effective to have the peel treatment again as the pigmentation MAY not continue to resurface at the same rate. I have to decide whether to take the HRT and that won't start till October.Maybe a peel at Xmas and then see how long it lasts.

I have had pigmentation on parts of my face for a few years and only twigged very recently this happened during peri meno.

I went to see a dr who does fraxel lasers as i was considering this as treatment, unforunately the dr decided my pigmentation wasnt sun damage but hormonally driven and refused to do the laser treatment as this could make it worse.

She did recommend obagi skincare and said thermage treatment would be ok.  I am just back from holiday and think that my pigmentation is worse, maybe thats due to hrt

Trey have you moved yet? Sounds like you hve good reason to get out of the desert, our health is so important.

I know that my HP is very sensitive to the sun and that despite factor 50 and wearing a hat there is nothing that I can do to prevent the increase of discolouration re emerging after being out in the day light generally.After a particularly hot trip to Sardinia I looked completely ridiculous sporting HP which looked like a moustache. I'm not prepared to live under a rock until the condition has passed. I use a Laura Mercier camouflage make up which can take the edge off. Fraxel is very expensive and I have to say that I had quite good results from IPL intensely pulsed light which is less expensive and only mildly stingy at the time. I gave it up as the result didn't last very long.
