Thank you smokey.
We knew it was coming but it doesn't make it any easier.
We haven't mention another one yet but in time who knows ;)

you'll know when and if it feels right Dyan x

I'm so jealous of the new puppy. I love labradors although you have to watch what they eat. I was hoping my downstairs neighbour would get one as he wanted a dog, and his parents have a lovely old lab. But he got a fox terrier instead. I like him (the dog!) but he's not friendly or cuddly, nor has those lovely soppy doggy eyes. We have a lot of foxes round here, so he's hard wired to bark and kill foxes all the time.
Here was I hoping for a soppy dog that I could play with, and not have any of the bills!

It's in the 'terrier' part of the breed and nope, they aren't cuddly - fox terriers were bred to do a 'job' ......... it's the way they bounce along as if they are en-pointe  ::) ...... and they need careful grooming and trimming  ;) .......

I have a little Bichon. She is so high maintenance when it comes to grooming. She hates it and I'm not that keen either  ::). If she is not regularly trimmed she gets in a real mess. I spend more on her hair than mine.
She is affectionate though. Loads of character and personality.

I have always had dogs. Usually big ones and this is my first little one. I find a house really empty without one.

My Border Terrier is really affectionate and cuddly, Fox Terriers are renowned for being particularly 'terrierish'. My Stanley does shed fur quite a bit but I hand strip him myself and he loves it - hand stripping involves literally pulling the long hairs out and it maintains the working coat which is rough. HE's fortunately not particularly yappy but Border Terriers sing or speak - in other words they appear to be trying to talk to you with strange sing songy noises - terribly sweet. DG x

Hi CLKD

So sorry I havnt replied, I have just been so busy, with Toby and trying to feel well too.
I've only just started to look on site again.
It has been tough with the first  few months, but now he's potty trained and crate trained its so much better.

He is such a joy when he's good but like a two yr old is horrid when he's bad, have been out for lots of walks, normally 3 each day.

We now have taught him to sit lay down ,to walk nicely on the lead, and has just learnt to stay! I can't believe he is four months already!

How are you these days?

I'm pleased to hear that the crate-based training has worked for you Smokey.  This is the method recommended by the vets with whom I work and they use this for their own dogs.  Would also endorse what's been said about Haltis.  From what you've said I'm guessing Toby is fox red?  Sounds gorgeous.

All the best.

Copy your photo to Photobucket and then use the 'insert photo' icon on the toolbar.
This is one of my cats.

No, but we can start one! No sooner said than done! Off to put my cat on a separate thread.
