Hi Sue,
I could not reply to your pm, as I believe a person has to make at least 20 posts before they can use the private message function! (and I don't have that many yet)

Hi Sue,
I've been on Elleste Duet 1mg for almost 4 months now. This is the first hrt I've tried and for me it seems to be fine. I went on it because of hot flushes which were ruining my life. It took a whole 2 months though before I noticed any difference at all but by the end of 3 months they had almost completely gone and I feel like a different person! My nails had become very brittle and were cracking right across which was not good and they are now so much better. As for my mood, I'm not somebody who has ever suffered with depression but from last June onwards I've been very down but because of close bereavements suffered in 2012 I'm unsure whether or not it's been the menopause to blame or possibly a combination of the two. Anyway I'm feeling quite a bit better just these last few days so I'm hoping I'm on the road to recovery.
So I suppose it depends on your symptoms. You can always try one type and if it doesn't work for you then try another but one thing I've learnt is to persevere and give it 3 months before you change. For me it was definitely the correct decision! I now feel as I did about 10 years ago, long before any symptoms started...I've even got my spotty upper back back which I'd had for many years but I don't care I can cope with that!! My GP is great by the way and from the start she said I could change if this one didn't work or up the dose if necessary X

choc!

I've been put on that as well   (I've just come to the end of my first month) - 3 days into 2nd pkt   (having a period at the moment )- too much information I know!

So pleased somebody else is on this!  :)  And I can pick you're brains! ;D

Hi sue23

I've been on HRT for over 7 years - since late peri-menopause.

I use Estradot 50 mcg patches and Utrogestan (micronised progesterone) 200 mg, and have chosen to remain on a cycle because I don't want to take progesterone continuously.

This works brilliantly for me and I don't want to stop - despite getting migraines now and again when on the progesterone part. I never have hot flushes or night sweats, and I feel pretty well most of the time apart from some morning tiredness. I really would recommend HRT and especially this combo to anyone who is suffering from unpleasant menopause symptoms!

I agree with choc57 also - that even if one type doesn't work for you then another one may well do so donlt give up at the first hurdle. Potentially unpleasant side effects can be minimised by going for the bio-identical formulations - ie oestradiol (for the oestrogen) and "natural" progesterone - as I have indicated above. Some women react badly to some of the synthetic progestogens (such as norethisterone). Transdermal methods of obtaining oestrogen eg patch or gel, avoid any side effects from going through the digestion and liver that  can occur with tablet HRT.

Hope this helps

Hi Hotsff....is it working for you yet?  Must admit when it took so long for any relief from flushes I was feeling like going back to my doctor so I'm glad I waited. Not having periods though well not really...nothing until this last month, end of month 3 when I had a bit of a bleed which just lasted 24 hours. My doctor said it didn't matter if I didn't have a bleed but that they might kick in later so I'll have to see what happens at the end of this pack! It's a small price to pay though!!  :)

Hi Sue - did you stop HRT because of side effects? A different one might work better for you, if so.
