Painful Breasts
« on: May 14, 2014, 12:39:21 PM »

Hi everyone,

I am 47 years old and have been on HRT for 4 years now, having started perimenopause at around 38.

I am taking premarin 1.25mg and uterogestan 100mg (at night). My HRT was prescribed initially by a specialist who I go to see privately as my GP is very anti HRT, but that's another long story.

I have been on premarin probably for a couple of years and taking the uterogestan around 18 months.
All has been fine until the last 2-3 months when I have been having v noticeable breast discomfort. My breasts have been feeling very achy and heavy, particularly the right one, which feels 'bruised'. Hard to describe exactly. I have seen my GP 2 or 3 times and been examined and I examine myself, nothing looks or feel untoward, but there is just this 'feeling'. I am due to see my specialist next week, but when I spoke to her about it couple of weeks ago, she felt it was unlikely to be due to the medication.

I wonder if anyone else has had a similar experience ?

Many thanks  x

Hi I am going through the same thing.  My left breast in particular is very sensitive to changes in my hormones and one particular area of my breast becomes very sore when I am ovulating or before or during my periods.  This has been ongoing for a couple of years but now that I am in peri, it's more noticeable.  I am taking evening primrose oil capsules twice a day for the past 2 weeks... no pain yet, but I am yet to ovulate, so will let you know if it comes back or not.  I think our hormones are so out of whack that our bodies really don't know how to react.  Hope this helps

Hi Mandy,

Thanks very much for replying, haven't tried anything like that yet, may give it a go, my personal feeling is that it is due to hormone levels too. It almost feels like that PMT or early pregnancy feeling in the breasts.
Hope the evening primrose helps you. Thanks again x

you're welcome!!  Lots of ladies are going through this, it seems to be a very common symptom, albeit very uncomfortable. xx
