I am new to this site and could definitely do with some help. I have suffered with anxiety disorder for nearly 20 years. It is really bad at the moment. Mostly because when I went to my doctor with dizziness and feeling faint he  thinks it is my heart so I have to go for tests which has trebled my anxiety levels. Reading some information I know I am going through the menopause as my periods are erratic and I have had hot flushes.

Hi legojayne

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about your anxiety. I have no experience of this but from what I've read it can cause the symptoms that your describe - ie dizziness and feeling faint. It's good however that your doctor is sending you off for tests - if just to rule out any physical cause.

Menopause will certainly contribute and often worsen anxiety - many women suffer this for the first time during the peri-menopausal years.

If your periods are erratic then you could well be starting the menopause - and have you mentioned this to your doctor too? He should really have identified this. If he isn't helpful about the menopause perhpas there is someone else in your practice who is a specialist in this area -  the receptionists should know this and be able to advise who to go to?

Once other conditions have been ruled out then perhpas you might like to think about HRT - but it's important to choose the right type because some of the synthetic progestogens can contribute to anxiety. There is a lot of information on this site -  look at the menu on the left and try to find out as much as possible before discussing with your doc!

A while back someone else posted this link and I remembered it - a site about self-help for anxiety etc, which might be useful if you haven't come across it:
http://www.nomorepanic.co.uk/

There are lots of threads about anxiety on the forum so if you go to the forum home page and search for "Anxiety" you will find some of the recent ones.

Hope this helps!
