Progesterone and anxiety
« on: March 27, 2014, 08:12:26 AM »

I need some advice please.
I have recently posted about long cycle hrt. I took norethisterone for two weeks at the end of the cycle as instructed, it is ten days since I took my last progesterone. I have had side effects including upset stomach, feeling sick etc. I also noticed that my anxiety rose and I have been feeling low, I thought this would stop a few days after taking the last tablet but it hasn't, is this normal or will it take a while for the progesterone to go away again? I have felt awful since taking it. I do suffer from anxiety and depression and I worry that it is coming back or could it be due to the hormones?
Thanks

I have been on the same regime as that and TBH, I think the Northisterone leaves your system quite quickly- doubt very much if there is still any there after 10 days, because the bleeding starts once the levels fall.
If you already have a history of other things then I'd guess it's a coincidence.

Hi Shellb,

I agree with Sarah2, it takes around 7-8 hours for half the dose to leave your system so it will definitely have gone at the ten day mark. Whilst norethisterone is associated with low mood/depression and tummy upsets, my gut feeling is that fluctuating hormones and you worrying are causing you to feel the way you do.
My anxiety levels late last year caused absolute havoc with my body and symptoms.

I've previously suffered with generalised anxiety so I can relate to the nausea, upset stomach and generally feeling down. I've had ADs in the past, which worked really well for me but this time I decided to see a psychologist. We have been working together since December and I can honestly say I am improving. I still have my ups and downs and weird symptoms but I have great coping strategies in place which really help. This might be a route you could take?

Take loving care of yourself
