i was 47 and started having the most horrible night sweats and hot flushes. erratic periods mood swings the works. so went onto the HRT, wasn't bad stopped the sweats, ect. but my periods where still laa over the place. then 2 years later i suffered a string of angina attacks. and had to come off the HRT. well full blown meno within 2 weeks. it was horrible. and recovering from the heart probs as well. boy did i know about it. so i went down the herbal route, black cohosh. no help. red clover was amazing but stopped working after about 6 months. then i tried sage capsules, now they where good as well. but yet again my body got used to them and stopped working. so i thought sod it ill just carry on but with no help. and my effects started to get alot lighter. and 12 years on from that first night sweat im doing good (touch wood  :) ) i think i had a warm feeling about a month ago. but that was in a warm shop. but u learn to layer your clothes during the winter.and thats a help.
But im hoping ive found the end of my piece of string. when i first came on this site i asked the question *how long does the meno last* and i was told *how long is a piece of string. so thus me saying think i've come to the end of mine  ;)
Its been hard work, my moods were horrendous. darling hubby said he was going to make me live in the shed. we didn't even have a shed.heck we didn't even have a garden at the time lol i havnt had a period for years. which i love. ive got boobs !! never had them before. but i have gained weight sadly.
so for those who are just starting out. there is an end honest.

Hi elfie

How long was that piece of string, if you don't mind me asking. How many years from the start of symptoms till the end?

Thanks
