I am surprised at this Ju Ju - especially from a private gynae.

I am assuming that she has prescribed oestrogen only for a short while to see if you feel better, before starting progesterone. Somne of us take long cycle HRT and the longest licensed product is the tablet Tridestra which is for a 3 month cycle. Private gynaes can and do vary the cycle length due to their specialist knowledge, but at some point and preferably after no longer than 10 weeks, of oestrogen only, you will definitely need a progestogen of some sort - and after this length of time a powerful one.

I presume you will be going back to her well before this to see how things are?

Good luck with the changes in diet too!

Hi,

You are right, Hurdity. Just received a copy of the follow up letter to my GP. If I choose to continue this treatment, I will need progesterone, but it will have to be a benign one as progestogens can worsen low oestrogen symptoms. She will discuss this with me at my next appointment.

I'm being very good with the low carb diet, but struggling to eat the right kinds of protein. Unfortunately, I get a reaction meat and fish, unless very, very moist, like in a well cooked casserole. I find oily fish particularly difficult. At best I get the sensation of something stuck in the oesophagus and at worse a very painful spasm. I once ended up in A and E after not being able to swallow for 5 hours. I've had an endoscopy, which was all normal. I think I shall have to see a nutritionist or dietician. I have the same reaction to wheat, though it has eased a bit, after a few years of avoidance. Still that's not an issue in a low carb diet.
