Never a truer word was spoken! Ours is pants. Doesn't show how much gas is costing us. Doesn't show so many things they state on advert. Oh & don't try & phone to complain or you'll have a very long wait. Gas board came to do annual check, we complained about meter - not their job. So basically we haven't a Scooby how much we're spending, yet it's supposed to be a money saving device. How? We don't know how much we're saving/spending.

Could we sue as not being as advertised? 

Today's moan over.

I don't 'get' them, or those 'energy monitor' things you can get.  I have a friend with one - it 'smiles' if you use less energy than yesterday!  Great .... until you've pared your use to the bone, then have the audacity to turn the heating up a degree or put the lights on a little earlier because it happens to be winter - then it starts frowning and turning red!!  Bullied by a box in the corner!

Oh thank goodness ours doesn't do that. If we're running too much at once it turns amber. Gas board emailed hubby saying we would be able to see best times to use appliances, eh nope!  I dislike my box with a passion. I could switch it off, but hubby likes to "see" what we're using, except we can't see fully what we're using.

Ours lurks in the corner of the room doing nowt because DH can't be bothered to re-set it 

I won't be cold for anyone ………. we don't spend our monies un-wisely so being warm is important!

Ours is in the bin. It caused a great deal of stress, mainly mine, as I watched my money being spent by the minute.

I am careful with my heating and lighting as most people are but life is too short to watch my bank balance reduce day on day

That's my feelings too. But hubby driving me insane. Checks it when he comes home from work, checks again at bedtime. Feel like he's checking up on me. I had a bit of a Barney with him about it, if I'm honest. I will not be cold, I will dry clothes in tumble drier if necessary. He knows we can afford our gas/electric. However, I will say this, it would be useless for anyone on a tight budget, as it's impossible to work out exactly how much is being used. I thought these new metres were meant to help folk budget, not hinder.

I would not like to feel I was being checked up on. Bet he would soon complain if he did not have a clean shirt because you were saving money by not doing his washing as often 

I won't have a freezing house by try to keep the thermostat down during the day and have it cosy at night.

I'm shattered just reading that Honeybun!

I'm with you on needing a holiday - I worked out last week I've not had a full week off work since September (worked between Christmas and New Year this time, so had a couple of long weekends rather than a solid break).  And working full-time, over an hour's journey from home (so I'm out of the house from 6am until at least 5.30pm), is taking its toll - tired, permanently!!

Mmm! Gas central heating? What's that? I live in the sticks. Gas has never reached here. We have oil central heating. Had a delivery today. Many 100s of £s later...........

He swears he's not checking on me HB, however I told him his actions were inappropriate, making me feel this way. Think he took the hint. Paranoia came into the conversation.  Moi?

OH drove me mad when he had one and I don't even live with him! He checked it all the time. Replaced all the bulbs with low energy can't see a thing ones and took most of the inset ceiling ones out. Turned the heating down. Used only the minimum programme on the washing machine. Threw out the tumble drier. We sat in a gloomy chilly house. Lasted about six months before he binned it thank goodness.

we're due to get one fitted sometime this year. Just had my annual energy statement and despite a so-called energy efficient new boiler and a warmer winter, we've used more energy than last year.
By the sound of it, I think I'll put a bag over it
We have a small flat with just 2 of us, double glazing and energy (gas and electricity) is still about £1000 a year (London prices)
