I haven't taken HRT in tablet form but the combi tablets contain the synthetic progestogen norethisterone which some women react to adversely - although I don't think hot flushes are a side effect - as these are usually caused by decrease in oestrogen.
Absorption of oestrogen from tablets can also be affected by your own system eg digestive disturbances etc as they have to be metabolised through the liver - so maybe something is causing a decrease in the amount of estradiol getting into your system?
It may be also that 1 mg oestrogen isn't enough for you and you may need to increase the dose to provide symptom relief.
I'm sure someone else will be along with more experience of these tablets....
