Feeling so much better on hrt but now a blip?!
« on: February 25, 2014, 02:25:20 PM »

I have been feeling so much better after 3 months on Femoston 1/10.  Palpitations only occasionally now, hot flushes gone, sleeping Better.  So glad I took the plunge after such great advice on this site.

Not feeling quite so good the last few days and wondering if this is normal?  I am 49 and peri so I am guessing my own hormones have something to do with it.  I have a constant headache which is worse on waking and I feel a bit jittery and tired.  Had a few more palpitations too but still nowhere near as bad a pre hrt.

Can anyone share their experiences and advise how long you wait before asking to increase dose?

Cheers,

Sally x :)

Hi SalW

Just wanted to say sorry to hear you are not feeling so good and I expect it is your own hormones fluctuating. Not good about the constant headache though and surprising for a cyclical HRT? You may well feel worse when you change to the combi tablets half-way through the month and this could give you headaches?

An increase in dose may do the trick especially as I see the progestogen dose is the same as for the lower dose Femoston.

What were your periods like before starting HRT?

Hi Hurdity,

Thanks for your message!

Yes, it is a puzzle as I experienced a few headaches during the combi phase in the first month but after that fine and no headaches etc until now.

Before starting hrt my periods had been few and far between, quite heavy but not too bad and 5 month gap but then another one 3 weeks later. GP said she couldn't put me on the no bleed hrt.

Had been getting a period on day 3 of the oestrogen only tabs, quite heavy but starting gradually and only lasting 5 days, but this time it came a day early and was a flood of bright red, yuck, everywhere!!  Stopped 2 days later.  I am now on day 6 of oestrogen only.  Had a few palps and  hot flushes on the 2nd day of period but they have settled.  Just left with the headache and feeling more anxious than I have for ages.

Sorry for the long post!  Just frustrated as I had been doing so well, expecting miracles I suppose!  Do you think it's my hormones unsettling things? I am happy to ask for the higher dose but probably should persevere a bit longer and see if things settle.  Would welcome your advice.

Cheers,

Perhaps mention to the doc about the headache if it hasn't gone a few days after stopping the progesterone and onto the oestrogen only. Some women get them when the progesterone levels drop due to physiological changes in the body but then after a few days they go.

If you had headaches before starting HRT then maybe a higher dose would help but equally it may be that tablets don't suit you and a transdermal method would be preferred?

Here is what it says on this site about migraines:

Migraine
Migraine is often triggered by hormonal fluctuations and therefore may occur around the time of a period. Such migraine may improve at the time of the menopause. Some women find that migraine may be triggered by the daily hormone fluctuations which can occur with oral (tablet) HRT so the transdermal (patch or gel) route is usually preferred with a history of migraine

Hope this helps

Thanks Hurdity,

I will give it a few more days and then go to drs and have a chat about different options.

I am now on Oestrogel and Utragestan but was previously on Femston. I started on the 1/10mg Femston but got break through meno symptoms so was put on Femston 2/10mg which stopped the symptoms. However I wanted to change and the Oestrogel and Utragestan is just fabulous even better than Femston.

You may need to up the dose to Femston 2/10

Thanks Ellie, that's very helpful.  I will discuss the options with my GP.  I get a rash with plasters so patches aren't an option but the gel you use would be fine.  Cheers, Sally x
