Hi everyone, nervous about my first post but here goes. I'm 41 and have had several blood test which always come back fine. I didn't have a period for 14 months then had one that lasted 4 months back to 5 months without. Had night sweats for some time but the day flushes are now terrible. My mood is awful so short tempered and I used to be so easy going. My drs just say tests are clear so nothing they can do but I am really struggling. Anybody had anything similar or any advice?

Hi Beverley - no need to be nervous chatting to us lot!

Blood tests are very unreliable and it is often better to go by symptoms alone. It does sound as if you are having an early menopause and all the recommendations are that you should be offered HRT.

HRT helps protect your heart and bones up to the normal age of menopause which is around 51. Because you are merely replacing what should have been yours naturally then the usual HRT risks don't apply.

Have a good browse around this site especially the menu on the left of the screen where you will find information about premature and early menopause.

You will find lots of advice and help on here.

Hi Beverley

Welcome from me too!

I'm not sure what your doc means by the tests are "clear" - but in any case I agree with what Taz says! Sounds like you would really benefit from HRT. Do persist in trying to get your docs to understand that you would like HRT to cope with your symptoms and don't let them fob you off with anti-depressants etc! I presume you've had other tests too eg thyroid function?

Hi again and thanks for the replies. I didn't actually speak to the doctor about my results. The receptionist just told me they were fine and I didn't need a follow up appointment but after your advice and having a look on this fab site I've made an appointment to see the doctor. So if bloods aren't showing anything is it still ok to go down the HRT route? Thanks again ladies x

Hi all, I'm new as well have been reading all post and have been great help to me, I'm just hoping to get some help on anxiety part of all this. My story is ... Didn't have a period for def from jan - jun 2012 spoke to GP when getting the pill had few night sweats nothing bad so she ran tests on meno and ye I was I thought it was hillarious at 42 so anyway we spoke about hrt and I thought ok I'll take that make me young and energetic! Big mistake, first 2 months ok then 3rd month on then felt bit dodgy on green tabs, elleste duet, then month 4 palps started really bad went to hospital done few tests ok same month 5. Stopped hrt and pill still get the palps now but put on beta blocker not so bad or maybe I can just control them better. Just feel I wished I hadn't touched hrt if none of this was going on before. Took normal period dec 3 in jan any encouragment or advise welcome x
