Ho Hum - Advised to go back on HRT
« on: February 11, 2014, 09:05:56 PM »

Oh well, it was nearly four months this time, but I've just been advised to restart due to a flare up of my hormone related skin problem!  Can't believe how much better it was on HRT -  I'd forgotten how bad it could get. I've also started having some very weird pains in my knees and ankles so it will be interesting to see if these disappear once the old oestrogen starts working its magic!

You tried. I lasted 8 months once, but couldn't wait to get back on it again. You can try again at some point in the future.

I think coming off HRT has to be done at the right time.  A time when there is less stress and you can concentrate on your diet and lifestyle.  Also, if you have issues that emerge due to the lack of oestrogen, then these need to be addressed by some alternative method and this can take time. I can't remember why you were coming off HRT Stellajane but if life is better with HRT then stay with it.
I've been off HRT over 3 months now and my flushes have not been tooooo bad.  It's just the awful burning urethra that has returned with a vengeance and the Vagifem is not really working yet!!!!! DG xxxx

You shouldn't feel a failure or whatever because you have chosen to go back onto HRT, should you?

I don't know how long I'll take it- it's been 5 years now and thankfully my last mammogram a few weeks ago showed no change since my previous one.

I mentioned to my consultant that I'd 'have to come off HRT sometime' and he and said not necessarily- some women find the side effects too bad and are willing to take the small risks, which now seem smaller than before.

It's always a personal decision but there are women who've been on HRT for decades right through to their 80s.

I think if HRT is the lesser of the evils then it is preferable to a vast array of other drugs with all sorts of side effects.  A cyst is not cancer and you will monitor your breasts anyway. I personally think the cancer risk is greatly increased with stress and meno symptoms are definitely stressful.  Stay well Stellajane.  DG xxxx
