Moonbeam what strength and type of oestrogen tablets where you on? I think Evorel 50 roughly equates to 1mg oestrogen tablet?

I know that many don't agree but some women are just not suited to HRT. It just seems as if the body rejects anything artificial.

I understand that it's not what anyone wants to hear but I suspect in some cases it's true.

The headaches have been bad off and on for around a month,  been on oral HRT for a year so why now are they worse, I always suffered from headaches for the last 12 years,  worst around the time of the month, not sure if it is related to the HRT or hormones but not sure what to do,  I was wondering if it is because I use Vagifem last night and put a new patch on as well because at the minute my head feels like it is going to explode and I have taken codeine , I would hate it to be Vagifem as it helps but I think I may try giving it up and see what happens. The only other thing I take is Omperazole 40mg for my stomach.x

Hi Moonbeam,

i can relate to the headache thing and yes it is possibly because you added vagifem and a new patch.  If you need vagifem perhaps you could reduce your patch a little?  I know i am very sensitive to any increase or change in hormones and that may be you.

All the best x

Sweettooth ,  I am new to patches this is my second patch, changed from pills after been on them for a year, been on Vagifem for a few months and this headache has been going on since before Xmas, all the time I was on the pills never did I have such a severe headache, had little ones but coped but not now they are really bad and is there any other form of VA stuff I could try or is it maybe would be the same with other stuff,  I am going to stop Vagifem for now to see if it will help x

Hi moonbeam - I think I've said before that sudden increase in oestrogen can cause headaches so I think you probably need to try to ride through it. I would agree, possibly stop the Vagifem for the moment until your body is used to the oestrogen in the patch but you will need to give it at least a month.

When you first use Vagifem - if you have VA then more of the oestrogen (from the Vagifem) enters the system ( at least when it is first put in) but the vaginal tissues then gradually plump up so hardly any goes into the system. Why not just use the patches for a month say and perhaps use some estriol cream in the meantime ( eg Gynest Cream) as this is very weak?

Hi yes I think both the patch and vagifem at the same time was a bit much for my poor body to take, I am going to stop the Vagifem for a while, I have ordered some Hyalofemme to try as it doesnt have any estrogen hopefully it will help , I tried replyn in the beginning but never worked x

I did suggest stopping all HRT to see how your headaches and stomach problems responded.
Unfortunately you just maybe one of these women who cannot tolerate HRT in either pill or patch form.

My suggestion would be stop your HRT completely for a while and let your body have a break.

I know I may not suit HRT but the thought of life without it frightens me, I have always had headaches but this last few months since I have been on Vagifem they have got worse, I personally didnt want the patch I wanted the gel but this new GP said they dont do the gel and stuck me on the patch and as soon as I took the patch off the headache eased off a little bit but I still feel sick, I couldnt tolerate the smoking patch it made me ill ,I will not be putting a patch or using Vagifem and I may even stop the Omperazole till Friday and see how I go, all I wish is for this to work so I can stop feeling horrible and stop pestering you lot xx

moonbeam I have been worried about you too, I hope you get to see the GP as soon as you can, headaches and vomiting should be investigated, it might be migraine.

•Estrogen-replacement therapy may cause or worsen migraine headaches. About 58% of women who get migraines report improvement when they stop or reduce the amount of estrogen they take.

Copied this from a site as I didn't think you would want to plough through whole article.

I agree with HBs suggestion that you stop estrogen until you sort out what is going on with headaches.

I hope you get to see a GP who is sympathetic to your problems.

These bad server headaches have only been happening since I started the Vagifem, I always had headaches running up to the time of the month and thought once I had my op they would go and for the last yr they been nagging but never ever as bad as the one I had just before xmas and now , never had migraines, so not sure if they are them or too much estrogen with the HRT and the Vagifem, really dont know what or why all I know is it is getting me down, have heard that Omperazole can cause headaches but I have been on them for year so why are they so bad now just dont know x

You have to ask yourself what is worse. Meno symptoms or having headaches and feeling/being sick.
Give your body a break as you don't know what is causing what. If you stop everything for a while and let your system settle and then add things back in one at a time.

You really are gaining nothing from carrying on the way you are at the moment. HRT gel will make no difference as the delivery method is exactly the same.

We have had women on the forum before who just cannot tolerate HRT in any form no matter what they try.
We are all so very different but this has been going on so long for you and you are just taking backwards steps all the time.

Go and speak to a different GP at your surgery about your headaches and see what they think.

Hi My meno symptoms were pretty horrible and I cant face that again but also these headaches are too horrible, even if they maybe just are migranes, I have a appointment on Friday so until then I will not be taking anything, and see what this new GP will say and I will insist on seeing a meno clinic as I can not carry on like this cause I do feel I am going round in circles x
