Hello

I am new so not sure how to post properly yet.

I have been reading so many old threads about estrodiol and utrogestan.
Im on about the 4th week now and have finished my first 25 days and after a break back on the Utrogestan.

Most symptoms are ok now but I still get fatigue, anxiety on and off and weakness especially when doing yoga.

I pop the gel on alternate legs and am on 1mg and then the Utrogestan days 1-25.

I do get a little low and unmotivated and have been feeling so alone with it.

Just wanted to share. I have an appt with the doc next week so im hoping maybe she can tweak the hrt a bit as I know sometimes it takes a while tk get right.

😁😁😁

I use Utrogestan 100mg on a long cycle so I dont use it monthly, I use it every 2 months, but I am on a very low dose of 1 pump a day of the oestrogel and I do have an annual scan although I am well overdue now with the lockdown but need to schedule one. It gives me a short 4 day withdrawal bleed which is hopefully keeping the lining thin.

Yoga girl it's early days yet, it took 3 months for my anxiety to go. I think you should give it a bit longer. You may want to 0padd testosterone when your oestrogen levels are stable. It improved my muscle tone and I stopped pulling muscles. Also helped mood and motivation.
julie55 you will have a bleed this way. You take 200mg utrogeston for 12 days per cycle. Most people use a 6 week cycle. It should give you long enough only on oestrogen to see if utrogeston is responsible for your ear problem.

The manufacturer says 200mg x 12 days if using it cyclically. It's the same dose if you take it orally or vaginally. As they are the ones who did the testing I assume they know better than anyone else. You know you're at greater risk of cancer if you're lining builds up so if you use less you should have regular scans to check it. Many people do seem to be OK on a lower dose but you don't know if you're the one that isn't.
How is your libido? It's usually a good indicator of low testosterone.

You say you're in peri? In which case you should be using it cyclically anyway. There's no need to be embarrassed on here, many of us have embarrassing problems and it's sometimes easier to talk about with people who don't know who you are. If you post in the Private Lives forum only members can see it. My libido was zero.

Hi all,

I have just been pondering why it's OK to have the Merina whilst in peri to provide a steady dose of progesterone and as such reduce/stop bleeding but it's not recommended to orally take progesterone daily for the same result...

I've just started on 300mg utrogestan orally to control and regulate heavy bleeds and will try vaginally on next cycle. I don't much fancy the Merina as an option at the moment but would like something that offered me the same result lol!

Presume it must be the delivery method of the progesterone?

Hi Jane50

Yes the high dose of progestogen from the Mirena is delivered directly to the uterus lining with far less getting into the bloodstream compared with oral intake. Also the progestogen ( levonorgestrel) in the Mirena is more powerful in terms of endometrial protection, than progesterone.

If you took `100 mg oral progesterone daily during peri then you may well reduce bleeding to some extent but not in the same way as a Mirena.

Vaginal progesterone is more protective but most women would not want to do this on a daily basis.

Hi, new to this forum.
I was prescribed 2 pumps estrogel daily and 100mg continuous Utrogestan (since Feb)  for acute debilitating night sweats. Have managed to go without hrt until then and hadn't had a period for 7 months. Since then I have had terrible mood swings and been bleeding a lot...but no night sweats. I feel like I've added a whole lot of new issues I didn't have before. My gp suggested upping Utrogestan to 200. Big mistake. I'm clearly very intolerant to it. Tried the pessaries, also very bad reaction. I have now lowered the pump to 1 and taking 100mg Utrogestan alternate nights.Feel so much better. Still bleeding but not heavily.  Does anyone else do this?

As you are peri rather than meno (1 year without a bleed) you should be using it cyclically, 200mg for 12 days per cycle. This will give you some time without progesterone so you can see the difference. If you take less than the standard dose you should have scans to make sure your lining isn't building up. You might consider a long cycle if your own periods are infrequent, perhaps 6 weeks, or you could try a different type of progesterone.

Hi  sheila99,
Thanks for your reply. Guess I thought if I lowered the pump it would lessen the bleeding too. If the hot flushes start up again I would increase it to 2 pumps. My problem is I can't tolerate the 200mg dose of Utrogestan, even when using pessaries.
I'm going to talk to my GP but it's nice to have some input from those who are really in the know!
