hi anaise

did you shed hair on the everol patches prior to the estrogen ?

u mention if i read it correct u have no ovaries  . did you ever try progesterone. x

i've got blood test tomorrow morning as my GP is going to test my progesterone and estrogen again and then go from there what hrt i take at the moment i'm not on anything x

Yes I shed on Evorel too, I haven't tried progesterone because I don't need it and i don't want to take the risk attached to it. x

hi anaise

did u have endometriosis because normally a progesterone is advised due to estrogen that's unopposed stimulating any remaining endometrial tissue (edson metroid is growing back ) x

i still think unopposed estrogen causes hairloss in some women myself being one , i wouldn't say my hair has stopped shedding completely but is better less on the brush and floor the only thing i've noticed though is scalp pain irritation since stopping estrogen as been almost 2 weeks . when i initially started hrt i wa son elleste solo mx 40 and didn't shed hair but was only on them 6 weeks and i think stopping them for a period of 5 weeks then starting vagifem has triggered my hair to go into shedding before starting the gel and had continued and possibly got worse . so i'll stay hrt free for couple more weeks see what's happens but i may start on a combined regime and see x if i can last without my sleep cause that's gone to pot x lol

afternoon ladies

merry xmas to you all x

please can i your advice

as you know i been shedding hair and thought it may of been caused by initiating estrogen !

i've been using estrogel 2 pumps prior to this and after my hysterectomy 5 years ago no HRT and no hairloss .

i've stopped the estrogel now 2 weeks , the first week i thought yep it's the estrogel causing the hairloss as shedding virtually stopped after 3 days however into second week shedding started again and has continued to be the same if not couple of hairs more when being on the estrogen . i'm having blood test to check level of progesterone although i suspect this will be zero as no ovaries but my Gp wanted to get a baseline and then i guess compare the ration of estrogen progesterone and testosterone to see where we are at x

am i jumping the gun and do i need to remain of the estrogen for longer due to the hair cycle (3 months ) i'm paranoid that it's going to get worse and worse so panicking now thinking i need to get back on hrt and quick lol x

the gel i guess was suiting me as i've noticed my sleep is rubbish since coming off although mood better and i think this is why the doctor is thinking imbalance in hormones i guess what is need to do is try all 3 estrogel. utrogestan and testosterone ! i am worries though and would like your thoughts on utrogestan have you found this to worsen hairloss and does this inhibit testosterone effects converting to dht x

hope you all have a lovely xmas xxx

please any advice or your experiences greatly appreciated xx

Sammiejane, do you have other symptoms of high DHT like more facial hair of body hair. Do you have a lot of pimples, greasy skin of maybe acne?
Do you know  your SHBG- level?

hi alicess

not really sweet i get the odd hair sprout on my chin but always that my recent estradiol test was 368pmol then 10 days later 113pmol and SHBG was 123.8
not sure what the SHBG was on the 368 reading as they forgot to test it and testosterone has varied from 0.6 to 0.9 so on the low side. x

FSH was 36 i think

i'm having bloods tomorrow both estrogen and progesterone to see if an imbalance at play xx

i guess though if i am hun a shed hair regardless of estrogen or no estrogen i may as well be on it it's very disheartening being only 40 if i was normal menopause age i wouldn't care x lol

SHBG- doesn't change that much unless you have increased your estrogen. I hope blood tests will give you soms answers. X

Hello

I wonder if I can get some advice? I have been on Utrogestan for 17/18 days and would it be bad to stop the oral every day now and do vaginally every other day until Day 25 ....then wait for a bleed..then start the Utrogestan again on day 1 every other day vaginally?

Argghhh I feel tearful and weird but not irritable...

Hello everyone

Am changing the way I take the Utrogestan mid way through - so on Day 20 I have changed to vaginal every other day  - do I keep doing this through the bleed? I have a feeling I do - so am following my instincts ...feel much better now day 16 - 19 has passed but am still changing it to vaginally to help the PMS feelings...any help gratefully accepted!!!

Happy Christmas everyone cxxxx :P

hi ladies

it's been 3 weeks since stopping the estrogel still continuing with ovestin twice weekly .

my hair shedding did improve first week and stopped however short lived as second and third week has got worse so my question is do i need to give it longer or if it was the medication causing it should it of stopped by now ?

i'm wondering too whether to go back on the gel and take progesterone too and see if it's now an imbalance at play . my GP has done. a blood test before xmas of estrogen and progesterone to see what the progesterone is as a baseline as i think she is thinking maybe an imbalance as the ratio between these two hormones if not in balance can favour estrogen being dominant and cause excessive shedding but also if i'm going to be taking testosterone , i've read that progesterone also inhibits 5a reductase and stops testosterone converting to dht ?

any advice ladies appreciate as always x

thank u

Sammiejane, obviously I'm no expert on hair loss but I do wonder if you could be suffering with hormone imbalance.   Oestrogen dominance (oestrogen spikes) might be your problem but you won't know for sure until you have your test results.  Your doctor can then work out the correct ratio.

My migraines were caused by oestrogen spikes so chances are it causes other problems too.  I need progesterone as a stabiliser to stop the spikes.

Sammiejane, I'm using one pump of Oestrogel, a tiny bead of testosterone and 50mg bespoke progesterone every day.

My progesterone is not the same as Utrogestan because it is half the dose and it is absorbed differently meaning no side effects.   It's is not available on the NHS I'm afraid.

You might find this oestrogen/progesterone ratio calculator useful.

hi mary g

so if i was on 2 pumps estrogel would 100mg utrogestan be sufficent ?

have u had any hair since starting your regime ?

and did you start estrogel progesterone and testosterone at the same time ?

Sammiejane, I started off on Oestrogel and testosterone every day and took Utrogestan cyclically for a number of years.   I don't suffer with hair loss but I did shed more hair than I do now on my current continuous combined regime.

Because you are very young and you don't have a womb, you probably need more oestrogen than me (I'm 58) but you have a lot of flexibility where progesterone is concerned because you only need it as a hormone stabiliser/balancer and not for womb protection.

In your situation, I would look at transdermal progesterone cream because it has fewer side effects.   I wonder if 100mg Utrogestan is a bit heavy duty in your case?   Have you tried Utrogestan yet and if so, how did you find it?

hi mary g

not really tried it yet did sort of 4 days then stopped but my menopause clinic said i can take it as it wouldn't do any harm and the dose would be 100mg continuous daily but wondering how much estrogen to take to balance it 2-3 pumps ?
when i took the pill microgynon 30 this had 30mg estrogen and 150mg levongestrel and i was fine on the pill no side effects but they won't put me on it as i'm 40 and smoke x

so my options are a patch or gel with utrogestan and have been given trostan to but i'm wondering if to start again hrt on 2 pumps gel the progesterone and trostan 3 times week at the same time for balance rather then adding in one hormone then another then another as this in my mind will cause more fluctuations x
thank u
