Thank you for your reply - much appreciated.  Getting access to a gynae might be a problem given my experience of GPs to date - but am seeing GP next week so I'll give it a go - in the meantime I'll try and 7-10 days and see what happens.  I've been 7 days off the progesterone now and no bleed yet.

The licensed dose for utrogestan is 12 days x 200 mg per 28 day cycle. As you have read and Dancinggirl points out this can be varied by specialist gynaecologists but it is imperative that you are monitored at least initially - but definitely annually to see how your body reacts re uterus lining. Did you take the 7 days orally and what dose? How many cycles have you tried? It may be that as it is the first cycle you won't get a bleed if the Utro has been keeping your lining thin the last few years. I certainly would not advocate 7 days orally in the long term for someone who is post-menopausal without adequate medical supervision and certainly not 100 mg.

Can anyone advise me please, I've been using Utrogestan vaginally for 5 months now & use a vaginal applicator from a canestan pack to insert but for some reason this month the capsules are melting before I insert them fully and therefore it is sticking to the applicator and I then have to re insert but by then the capsule is too melted and well stuck to the applicator & ends up quite a mess and a right faff just before bed as I have to pick it off the applicator and push in with my finger & I find if I use my finger I can't get it high enough. Sorry about TMI  :o Anyone else have this problem and how do you solve it? Can I put the Utrogestan in the fridge?? This might make it less prone to instant melting??

No def not, why would they melt, just shove them in and go to sleep takes 2 seconds, I dont use an applicator, just shove them in, I am not sure how far they supposed to go in, but been working fine for many yrs and I dont think, they are going in too far at all.... the finger works just fine....they melt during the night and one will pass the leftovers out in the first wee of the morning.... :D

Could your applicator be even slightly damp and causing the melting?

Hi Thanks for your replies, Trufflecat I did consider about it being damp but I don't think it is as I dry it thoroughly using a cotton bud to get inside & then leave to air dry throughout the day. I've always done it the same way and never had an issue until this month, I'm on day 8 now & I've had 7 of them disintegrate & stick inside the applicator 😭. I wonder if it's a dodgy batch? Or if it's because the weather is warmer? Our bedroom where I keep them is very warm  :-\

Could be that then. Just warm enough for them to melt when touched.

Ditto as Cassie. No need to use an applicator - just poke them up as far as you can ( and I have small hands ie short fingers!) - but of course when you are in bed. The coating is probably designed to become sticky when damp to aid adherence to the vaginal wall perhaps, so that it doesn't fall out immediately?

Well I gave up on the applicator last night & used my fingers, it stayed in but I never feel I push it up high enough. I guess it must still absorb. I have cut down to 100 × 12 days for the first time this month instead of 200 as I was suffering with awful withdrawal resulting in low mood & migraines in the few days while waiting for the bleed so it'll be interesting to see if  that happens this month or if it does hopefully not as severely  :-\

Hi,

Newby to this forum, but grateful for your help!

Wondering if someone can advise please? I am on 100mg Utrogestan continuously after being referred to a consultant at our local Meno clinic. I am 42, having had premature ovarian failure at 38 (all my bits are in tact, but my FSH levels on blood test were only 7!). GP & Consultant said given those levels, I was through meno, but after starting new regime of Sandrena (2 x 1mg gel sachets - recently increased to 3, due to continuing limb aches) and 100mg daily of Utrogestan progesterone, plus Testim testosterone gel, I have just started my second period - a bit weird, as she said I wouldn't have a bleed on continuous progesterone (and also added that there is no benefit at all to creating a bleed artificially anyway if through meno!)???

What do you make of that? I feel fine now the Sandrena is up to 3 mg daily, but wasn't expecting the bleed given the continuous progesterone. Do you think it might settle, or is something else going on?

Thanks for any help :-), - Fruitie-baby

Well this morning I woke up to a bleed on day 10 after trying my first month on 100 x12 days of Utrogestan instead of my usual 200 x 12 which has worked absolutely perfectly for me regarding bleeding etc, the only reason I cut down to 100 was due to terrible withdrawal migraines. Now what I would like to know ladies is 1. Do I stop taking the Utrogestan now after 10 days? I would've thought if I'm bleeding there would be little point in continuing  :-\ and 2. What do I do next month? Go back up to 200 x 12? I'm also a little concerned that the bleeding could've been due to the utrogestan not being absorbed properly as I posted earlier that I was having problems using my applicator this month and therefore alot of the Utro was dissolving and getting stuck inside the applicator & when I insert using my finger I don't think it's getting up high enough?? So it could've been this that has triggered the bleed? Any ideas or advice appreciated, thank you ladies, I'm off on holiday end of August and don't want to upset things.

I don't think the hrt is helping with mood/depression. I'm 46, blimey, and GP says hrt is important for bone health etc. I will try acupuncture again, but what other remedies have people been trying? Why is mood still affected if you are supplementing with HRT?

Also, some posters talk about Testosterone, what does that specifically help with?

Thanks

Hi - I'm going to see my gynae today to find out about vaginal Utrogestan,  but after 3.5 months I still don't think I have resolved the mood / anxiety / depression issues. Do you think adjusting to an increased hrt regime will help or should I go on antidepressants.

(I've include quote from previous quote as would really love to hear other's experience, or if you can direct me to relevant thread).

Thanks C

Chikabee - if the HRT is controlling the normal meno symptoms e.g. flushes, then if you mood is still low you may need to try a SRRI alongside - My gynae suggested I try Citalopram if HRT wasn't helping. Many women do well with both an SRRI with HRT - I believe HRT cannot solve everything and low mood and depression isn't always to do with the meno.
Increasing HRT dosage may not help and can sometimes cause other issues and problems.  Trying a different type of HRT may be an option as Utrogstan doesn't suit everyone - you could try Provera instead??
Testosterone helps with libido and fatigue I think - Hurdity is the one to ask about this.

Chikabee, what type/dose of oestrogen are you taking and how much Utrogestan?  I have been on HRT for about 9 years and I was post menopause by the time I was your age.

From my own personal experience, it is vital to get the oestrogen/progesterone ratio right and I have found that if I take too much progesterone, it has a drag factor, brings down my mood and drowns out all the positive effects of the oestrogen - it also causes migraines but that is another issue.

Through trial and error, I have also found that I need high blood levels of oestrogen to feel good i.e. be well into the 700s.  Anything less than that is useless for me and I feel half baked and not quite there.

It has taken me years to find the right HRT regime but since starting the Professor Studd regime of Oestrogel/Utrogestan/Testosterone, I don't have any menopause symptoms and feel roughly the same as I did aged 30 even though I am 55.  If you still have menopause symptoms or don't feel as good as you think you should then you probably need to adjust the dose or change your regime altogether.  If you still feel depressed with higher levels of oestrogen you could then consider taking ADs but my advice would be to rule out low oestrogen first.

Looking for advise on this, I was in Femoston for 2 yrs all ok but few stomach issues so GP and I decided to keep away from tablets and switch to oestrogel 2 pumps a day and Utrogeston which I thought would have been 200mg for 12 days but my script says 1  X 100mg a day for 14 days, is that too low or is anyone else on that? I had wanted this regime for a while but other female GP didn't know anything and this male GP I got was all for it so I was pleased, he did say he emailed someone in the know about it to double check it was right but everything I read says 200mg for 12 days, I'm 46 peri meno for four yrs now, periods were every 3/4 months then started hrt which brought me back to monthly cycle but had been back to every few months past 7 months don't think I was getting full benefit orally
