Long Period
«
on:

I had a normal period back in September, then after 6 weeks I started my next period. It still hasn't stop. I have been bleeding for 23 days now, it is a lot lighter than my normal period. I don't know whether to bother my doctor with it or not. Has anybody else had the same? I am 47 years old and although the blood tests say I am fine, I think I have been perimenopausal for a while.

Grrrrrrrrr Toffee Cushion its clearly not normal yet your blood tests say normal. I have just had my second load of bloods say normal so I'm cross atm. I would visit your GP for sure & record everything in writing with your cycle. Its so frustrating. You don't want to end up anaemic on top of everything else xx

Hi ladies
Sorry you are having problems with diagnosis, I too suffered this and it's awful when you know what the problem is and you can't seem to get any support from you GP.
In the end I went to boots and paid £17.99 for the promensil menopause test. Basically it's two urine tests taken a week apart and it measures the FSH levels, two positive tests indicate menopause. I did this and took the results and box to my GP, whe had 'never' heard of such a thing being readily available.
Obviously with this knowledge my GP booked me in for a series of blood tests which also confirmed that I am menopausal. I am now on HRT as my meno is early and I'm still not 100% as they can't get the dose and type right.
If your willing to pay the money for the kit I'm sure it will give you piece of mind one way or the other.
Good luck

Shellb did you already have blood tests that said no action from your GP? I am still willing to try this though even if you didn't so thank you so much. It has got to the point I am considering ordering HRT or birth control off the net but don't know where to start on what to order. I am off to the boots website right now! xx

Ellie I was quite shocked to see Superdrug sell BCP on line too. Had no idea. How do people go about BP checks etc. I wonder why you can buy these off the net from reputable company's but not other things I consider prescription only ?? xx

I tried the home menopause kit, I did one of the tests and it said negative. But I am not sure if it would pick up peri only menopause.

Hi Bev567901
My GP wouldn't give me any tests at all, just kept saying there was no point as they were too inconclusive, obviously when I presented my promesil results they had to act. I would be careful buying anything off the net as there are so many fakes out there, you just can't be certain.

Hi Toffeecushion
How long ago did you try the kit? Did you do both tests? It does indicate the peri side of menopause as it measures the FSH levels in urine, obviously these do fluctuate at times so it may be worth trying it again.

Hi Toffeecushion
I feel it is possible to suffer symptoms for a long time before there is a noticeable hormone change, as this is what I went through. Suffering from anxiety and depression didn't help either as it just made everything worse. Persevere with the doctors and look on the menu on the left hand side of the page as it lists all sorts of remedies.
