Ultrasound
« on: December 01, 2013, 07:43:13 PM »

Not sure if this is in the right bit of the forum but I had an outer and inner ultrasound last week.  Seriously not impressed with the person that did it, particularly the inner one - she was unable to give any eye contact, made no attempt through chat to relax me or talk me through what was going to happen and was actually her phone messages whilst I was still in the room getting dressed and had seemed to already dismiss me in her mind.  I had to ask her what happens next as in who I hear from about the results etc.  Her lack of any communication was the worst as while she would not be able to say much about what she did or didn't see her stony silence left me feeling like something could be wrong.  I intend to give feedback as don't think this is the way to treat women during the most intimate of exams.  Dreading my results now :(

Hi Mary1962

Sorry to hear about your poor experience when having ultra-sound, which is quite shocking. Yes I agree you should give feedback because in any consultation we should feel that we are being given undivided attention (according to whatever the procedure is), and we are important as a patient. It sounds as though it is her manner which is at fault - and I can understand your fears.

I would definitely telephone the surgery or hospital and ask where you can give feedback, and also when you are likely to get your results as you weren't told.

You haven't said the reason for the ultrasound but hopefully there will be nothing to worry about.

None of the sonographers in our dept would have treated you like this. I defo would complain, if she cannot show any compassion towards her patients then maybe a career in the health service is not for her.

I am sure you will be fin Mary1962.

Sorry you had this experience which I think is unacceptable.  I also had an internal ultrasound recently and they were really lovely and gentle and talked me through the whole thing.  I would definitely complain too.
