Thank you for your responses again.
CLKD - the police were quite annoyed and I don't think realised when they were called that I had been in the store for about 30 mins after the alleged incident .  This would have meant the store guard would have had time to check CCTV which obviously would have revealed nothing.  When the police stopped me I fell apart.  They asked me if I had anything in my bag I hadn't paid for and I said absolutely not.  I then asked for them to search my bags as I was so angry .  Maybe at this point i should have just walked away and laughed it off.  But the way I am at the moment I needed some kind of closure or explanation.  Of course it doesn't work like that - everyone scuttled off and wouldn't speak to me as they knew they were wrong.  The manager is now 'starting an investigation'.  No one can apologise anymore.

The Police need to liaise with the Manager to make sure that this situation doesn't arise in future.  You did the 'right' thing by insisting on seeing the Manager for discussion rather than letting it fester.

More wine?  ;)

Yes I'm ok thank you.  Still playing on my mind.  Been tearful again - everything setting me off ATM.  I think the hormonal changes the meno brings don't help when you are in this situation which is probably why the allegation completely floored me.  But it will pass and I will get over it I'm sure.  Ive emailed the manager and will wait a response,  one thing that has been said is when you are put on store net and your details passed to the stores,  the stores aren't then told of the outcome so I want this addressed.  Thing is probably everyone has moved on and forgotton about it now but I haven't.  Not yet anyway.  Have nice day xx

I would expect to be 'in' on any meetings that the Store holds with regards to this incident which involves you!  I would expect there to be contingency plans for such incidents and would need to know what the on-going situation is likely to be.

We saw a lady being helped in a store after she fell, the Staff called on a hand-held for a First Aider, later I saw the Staff filling out an accident form.  So the processes are in place.

Sounds to me like mistaken identity. You walked into the store and they communicated on the walkie talkie right away.

I am sure you could get recompense for this.

Because when stepping into a store and everyone stating I only go shopping with a tiny handbag. I then dump the shopping in the car and go back to continue shopping. But then I only shop in the same places all the time anyway.

I can understand your need for closure groundhog but that may not come from the store. This is what I do if something is really upsetting me; I write a letter and let them have it but then I burn it, to get it out of my system. maybe contacting an advice centre will yield results.

So horrible for you  - sheer rage would make me boycott the store forever and tell them that in a furious letter.

Thanks again for your replies.  I have sent a letter so we shall see if they respond.  I have asked did they check their vast CCTV system before subjecting me to this - they had time as I was in the store for ages after the alleged incident.  I will probably not go to that branch of this store for the foreseeable.  If I boycott it completely then I will lose out as I love the store so does my mother.
It's a horrible experience though and i could really have lived without this .  Never mind - these things happen xx

I would hope that the store and indeed the company will get back to you full of apologies and concern for how upsetting this was for you. I would have also been devastated.

Thank you scriv as another thing meno has done for me is make me doubt myself.  I am now thinking I over reacted and should have just laughed it off.  Nice to know other ladies would have reacted in this way.  In my defence my husband who tends to be an ostrich and switch off was very angry - he came into the store looking like a raging bull !!
Thank you

Don't you dare doubt your reaction on this! I would have done exactly the same as you. As I was reading your account of it, I was thinking just that.

I think you have done exactly the right thing writing to them to tell them how upset it made you. It must be a terrifiying experience to be pursued through the town and accused by the police of shoplifting.

The store needed to be made aware of how upset you are about it - and to have it in writing as well. I would make sure you get a prompt reply too. If you have not heard anything after a few days, then you should send the email again, copying in all the relevant bodies, asking if they are yet in a position to reply.

I like to think that, given who they are, the store will do the right thing and will probably be appalled at what has happened and I would give them a chance to make it good.

Take care x
