I'm still on them, I'm on a trycyclic anti depressant , I tried an ssri but it didn't agree with me. All the anti depressants do the same thing they just have different side effect profiles, the ssri generation are more widely prescribed. There are lots of different types in each class so if one doesn't suit lots of other options. I struggled deciding on whether to go on hrt or an anti depressant , hard to make decisions when your felling really rough! But I tried the anti depressant and I've not regretted that decision,I have the option of hrt if I want it. They are NOT a magic happy pill, not for me anyway, they just slowly helped me to feel better which enabled me to get back on track.
Anxiety and depression seems to be a common problem in peri menopause/menopause so logically as that was my worst symptom I felt the anti depressant would target the serotonin deficiency. I've never taken anti depressants before, I did have a bout of post natal depression after one of my children was born, over 20 years ago, but that was short lived and passed pretty quickly. Try not to feel guilty about not feeling well, and remember you are not alone as lots of ladies have difficult time in menopause.
