Nausea and Hot flushes...

Hi, I'm a Newbie here but not so new at all the menopause problems!
No period for a year and a half and honestly thought the hot flushes were away. Not so unfortunately! Back with a vengeance this week so my GP has put be back on Clonidine which really worked before. (Should have said that I am 49,
). Flushes are extremely bad. At the moment but only started tablets yesterday. Nausea is big problem recently. Was just in the morning for a few weeks, but not it's pretty constant. GP felt it was all related to Menopause. Would be really interested to hear if anyone else has this problem. I'm not on hrt.

there is a lot of good info in the menu left of screen. Nausea is quite common. Can be caused by low blood sugar. So grazing for 3-4 months, that is spreading your requirements throughout 24 hours, including in the night; can ease symptoms.
Ginger biscuits; bananas; dried fruits and nuts - eat before you feel hungry which can help stop the nausea. If you use the search button you will see that there are several topics

A lot of our ladies say it's like morning sickness and treat it just like that.
As CLKD says, eat before you are hungry. Ginger biscuits are helpful. Have a search as this has been discussed before.
You are definitely not alone with this symptom.
Meno is rubbish I think you would agree.
Welcome aboard.

Dear Catherine
I have had the menopausal nausea feeling. It has been like a morning sickness feeling when waking but other times it comes with the sweating or just feel slightly nauseous during the day. This is a really difficult one and one that I have struggled with. Good luck with the clonidine, have you had any side-effects with it and could you say what dose you are on. I have a prescription but that's as far as it's got at present. Do you think it helps with sleep at all, just wondered.
Good Luck

Hi Catherine
Welcome from me too.
Yes unfortunately the flushes do go on for some time in some of us!
Have you thought of HRT? That will not only eliminate the flushes and sweats but also replace the oestrogen which is lacking in your body.
If your periods stopped at say 47 or 48 then you really need the oestrogen in HRT, to protect your bones and general health, unless there is a medical reason why you cannot take it.
It is gereally acknowledged by the experts that Clonidine should not be prescribed as a first line treatment for flushes. Any risks ( and these are controversial) from HRT do not start to be counted until you reach the natural avergae age of menopause ie 52-53 and if you look on this site (see menu on the left) in any case the benefits are thought to exceed the risks up to the age of 60

Apologies if you are unable to take HRT......

I think that a lot of GP's are prescribing clonidine or anti-depressants as first line treatment since 2002. Maybe women are unwilling to try HRT or they think that if and when they stop it, symptoms will return, maybe with a vengeance, it is a very difficult decision and not one women are getting much advice on from NHS sadly.

I started HRT two weeks ago and the last few days have had the morning sickness feeling...all day and night.
I tried Motilium instants from Boots and feel hungry for the first time in literally a week.
Lost some weight though...
