Femoston Conti/Depression/Bleeding
« on: September 30, 2013, 01:34:54 PM »

 :(

Hi all

Some of you may recall I have tried various HRT preparations then came off it for a month or so and the symptons returned so bad, am back on it.

So the best one to date for me was Femoston Conti which am now back on.  Almost three months in and getting very low moods (combined with some form of monthly bleed).

Now the last time I was on this (a year ago) I didn't give it the full six months so am perservering.

My question is, and sort of thinking out aloud, is will this all stop hopefully once I hit the six month trial recommended.  I think I went to almost five months before then tried something else but nothing else agreed with me as well as Femoston Conti does.

I tried Kliofem, Femseven patch, Angelique  - none of which made me feel as good as I do on Femoston Conti.

The only problem is that whilst the hot flushes and night sweats have gone, now suddenly I am waking up constantlly at night to go to the loo and am having monthly bleeds combined with depression..............  :'(

So, do I hang on for a few more months hoping it will fix itself, or go back to doctors and am almost wanting to insist on being referred to a meno clinic/specialist  - if there are any as my doctors don't seem that well informed on side effects of HRT and all wanted to give me Elleste which in fact is the only one I haven't tried (yet!).

What to do :(

One minute I feel ok, next minute I feel so so despondent.

   are you prone to depression, is it like you had pre-menstrually?  How long does it last or does it attack randomly?

I thought Femoston conti was a no bleed HRT?

I have been on Femoston 1/10 then 2/10 and now have been moved to conti as not expected to bleed now.

Yes it's meant to be a no bleed!

So much for no bleed............. nonsense!

I had bleeds for the whole time I was on it before - around 5 months and couldn't stand it anylonger so came off it..............

However when I came off HRT the horrid symptoms returned so thought at least Femoston Conti was the only one I felt best on but the depression is really hitting me bad.

Yes I am prone to depression CLKD and went on anti depressants last year but came off them also as started to feel worse!

Oh what to do!

It can take six months or so for a conti to settle. For some It never does. I just had random days and some spotting but nothing that could be prescribed as a period. Perhaps you would be better on the sequi type of femseven as at least then you would know when to expect to have a period.

I agree with honeybun re the sequi type - nothing worse than random bleeding!

First thoughts are - where are you in meno and how old are you?  - are you post or still peri and how were your periods when you first went onto HRT? If you are actually getting monthly bleeds might this be your own cycle?

Does the progestogen affect you badly do you think? For some women continuous progesterone would drive them nuts (oops shouldn't say that  ;D ). A cyclical HRT would mean you wouldn't have to have the prog all the time - that's what I still do and I'm 60 ( have a 6 week cycle).

Has your depression been linked to your cycle ie hormonally related? if so you should be able to find a treatment that suits you for menopause symptoms and lessens your depression.

Do I remember you tried utrogestan in the past? I would recommend this cyclically but as I said for some women even this is a trial but it least it doesn't have some of the side effects of the artificial progestins, and it is bio-identical.

Hope this helps

Hi ladies and thanks for your help

I am definitely post meno, not had a period for around 4 years plus............

The HRT has brought on these bleeds/periods and seemingly pmt symptoms also.

No, I haven't tried utrogestan.

Feel so fed up with this. Whilst the femoston helps so much with the hot flushes, sweating, night sweats and those really odd flushes where I literally feel sick............. it doesn't combat the low moods.

I have been suffering from the meno symptons for around 6 years now but only started HRT last year.  The symptoms were getting so bad I had to take something and before the HRT I was beginning to feel depressed too but it seems to be worse I think at the moment, although up and down.

I had these sorts of problems on conti HRT Londongirl. In the end I went back to a sequi one so that I would only feel pmt-ish for half of the month. Not ideal but better than feeling like it all the time. You may find that a different progesterone will make you feel better.
