Exercise/Prolapse/ Meno
« on: September 23, 2013, 08:02:16 PM »

Hi

I am 51, post meno, have a mild Cystocele.  I have always done some sort of exercise classes for most of my life, and I reckon this has helped my get through meno relatively symptom free apart from the occasional hot flushes.  Now I have found I have a mild prolapse I have stopped my classes and I am missing the cardio workout I used to get, weight is going up, and flushes more frequent :(  Does anyone on here do any sort of weight burning exercise.  I do walk a lot, having 2 dogs, but it doesn't seem to shift the weight ???  I also swim 2 or 3 times a week.
I realise now that I have had this prolapse for about 23 years, but I think lack of Oestrogen has now made the muscles weaken more so began to notice it  Don't want to cause any damage but would like to do some sort of cardio.

Any tips anyone?

Thanks
Mony

Swimming is what worked for me. Not into going to the gym.

Thanks Cubagirl. :)  no I don't like the gym either.  I've always done things like zumba/ aerobics classes but too scared to do them now. I also fancy pilates but have heard that some of those exercises you shouldn't do either :-\

I gave up on pilates. A) due to fact that lying on my back with my legs up in air put too much pressure on my back.  Thought it would help with my back TBH. B) Instructor is an absolute dragon at times, no sense of fun.  Surely not every exercise needs you have legs in the air.  :-\

I do pilates and have a prolapse , I just make sure its all " sucked" up inside before I start some of the tummy ones , it stays there if I do that , however if i dont make the effort to subtlety get everything into place I can feel it bulge out which feels horrible but over the last 3 years of pilates it hasnt  got any worse . Sometimes I wonder as I look round the class if other ladies are doing the same thing! :P

If your cystocele is only mild why is it that you feel you have to give up zumba and aerobics?  Have you been advised to do so?  I have mild cystocele and mild to moderate rectocele and nothing was said by my gynae about avoiding any form of exercise.  Obviously weight lifting wouldnt be a good idea but I cant see a link with cardiovascular workouts.   ???

Thanks for the replies everyone :)  you are probably right Milliemoo, why do I feel I have to give up :-\  I think I am just scared of jumping around too much and making it worse ::)  but your question has got me thinking ???  I now know I have had this for a long time, as I could not use tampons after birth of my last child,  although I had never realised all this time why it was.  It is only now it has come to my attention at menopause age, so obviously I have been well jumping around all those years without any problem as such... so may be I should ignore my fears and go back to zumba and give it a whirl again... just take the moves lower until I know how I feel about it... sometimes  a bit of knowledge definitely feels like a dangerous thing... ::)  certainly don't want to give up on enjoying things because I now know about something  that I didn't realise I had  for 20+ years :o daft isn't it when you  put it like that ;D
thanks for helping me put it in perspective :)
