Since I started this thread I have discovered something called Nozohaem.
It's a gel you sqeeze into your nostril,   it stops nosebleeds really quickly ,
not cheap but I wouldn't be without it.

Thank you Ann - I will see if we have it in our local pharmacy. It would be great to have something that stops it quickly which would cause much less disruption to the working day or even the night-in-the-pub!

I order mine from the Internet as no chemist  near me stocks it.
