Hi All

We have decided to get 2 kittens. Any advice? Which are more cuddly, boys or girls?

Make sure you have a healthy bank balance!!  :)

Some cats hate being cuddled so don't automatically think you will get cuddly ones. With all of my cats I have found the girl cats to be less loving and more grumpy than the boys but they are individuals and it will be difficult to tell from kittens whether you will get a "home" cat or not.

Where are you getting them from?

Kittens need: Vet attention i.e. jabs, flea treatment etc.; spaying/castrating;  good grub, plenty of fresh water as many toys as you think they require  ;D.  Litter trays.  Clean please or you may find they won't use them  ::) ....... great fun, great time wasters.

Do you live near a busy road?  I had 2 boys and a girl, all had different characters, the boys played a lot mroe than she did.  The neighbours have a mixture.  Do you have someone reliable to feed and clean litter trays when you go away or if there is an emergency?  Have alook-see at the local kennels, don't announce yourself but go along for an impromptu visit.  A good kennel should not smell of chemicals and the Staff should be happy to show you around.

Black, black and white and white are the most difficult for rescue centres to rehome.  People seem to want the coloureds or 'breeds'.  If you can take on an older cat that would help too.  Everyone wants kittens  ::) whereas the older ones remain in cages for years sometimes  :'(

I have just got a new kitten. I have done nothing for the past week but play with her and watch her. I had forgotten just how much energy they have and how fast they are. I am constantly watching my feet when I walk through the house. She is an absolute doll and purrs like a train!

I have not noticed any difference in cuddliness between males and females (all my cats have been dressed). Depends on the cat I think. For the first week I was up twice during the night to check on her but now she thinks my bed is the best place to sleep at night so ............

The biggest time waster ever and with 2 kittens, twice the fun! Forget buying them toys - rolled up balls of paper are the thing and a choc biscuit wrapper on the end of a piece of string are the best of toys!

Well I took my darling little boy to the vet this morning to be castrated and after a long and close examination it turns out that he is in fact a she !!

I'm off out now to replace all of her blue blankets with pink ones ...  ;D

Ginger then  ???

Ping pong balls
Tightly rolled silver paper with one tiny loose piece so that the cat can carry it
Cotton reels
Old film containers filled with buttons, lid tightly on
Raw curly pasta
Lager bottle tops
A long skirt  :o

all these the neighbour's kitten plays with, he's 16 weeks now and ball-less  :-*

Hi All

We'll probably get them from our local rspca rescue centre (been once already and registered). I'd love a ginger one as I always had ginger boys when I was young.

We are deemed to be suitable for adoption  :D

Ah kittens I love them, mine are grown now, one is 4 and silver tabby a male, 2 pensioners one 10 a tortershell female, they are not so friendly, well mine wasn't even after being bottle fed from 4 weeks, and only started to let me stroke her a couple years ago, after I was ill.  Also a female blk and white with mid length fur she is so friendly and snuggles right up your chest from your lap purring and making lovely noises sadly she's 12 now and has a growth on her legs which causes a limp, but still friendly.

Advise make sure you get pet insurance you can get a decent one for general moggie from around 8 a month.

Good luck

Got a male and a female. She is the most placid, got a very good temperament, but brings in birds and mice  He's grumpy and never catches anything.

Enjoy your kittens! Another great toy is a cardboard box.
I've had boy and girl cats. My girls were calmer and wandered less, but (hate to admit this) the boys were more fun to play with and cuddle monsters.
When you choose your kitten, maybe try to find one that seems comfortable around people. My rescue girl came straight up to me at the shelter. I wasn't even looking for a female long haired kitten but I came home with her.

Male cats are definitely the best, so loving and easy going.  But I would advise neutering for definite as they do spray and its not nice
