Breakthrough Bleeding
« on: August 13, 2013, 12:46:24 PM »

Hi everyone,

Sorry I only seem to come on hear to pick your brains  ::)  I have been on oestrogel  and Utrogestan for over 6 months and all the bleeds have been on target with a withdrawal bleed.   This month I have started to bleed before taking the utrogestan.  I am due to start taking it on 19th of this month, I only take it vaginally for 7 days (100mg) and this usually causes me to have a light bleed around 3 days after.

Is this something that can happen sometimes?   I am perimenopausal and age 50 so I'm guessing my own hormones have kicked in this time?

Many Thanks for any info ladies, xx

Hi Meeka

I think we've spoken before?

If you are peri still then it could be your own cycle breaking through. However that is also a low dose of utrogestan and especially only for 7 days a month although I realise the dose seems to be halved for vaginal use. It is only a few days early but I would keep an eye on it as it is less than recommended duration for utrogestan/progesterone.

I can't remember if you are under a meno specialist - I imagine so under that regime. If so I would have a word just to check all OK in case they decide to do a scan as a precautionary measure?

Thanks Hurdity,

Yes you have replied to my questions before, many thanks for replying again..

Yes I consulted a Gyno as my own GP wasn't really interested ..

I am due to return in the Autumn so I will see what he says.

He always uses this low dose Utrogestan so I will ask him about the complications of such a low dose.  I only have a very light and short bleed which usually starts around the 28th of each month, two or three days after stopping the utrogestan.   This time my bleed is heavier and more normal for me, and it started on 12th of this month so quite a  bit earlier than usual.

I have osteopenia so the oestrogen is hopefully helping with that.....my Gyno believes its very important to stay on Oestrogen now I have been diagnosed with osteopenia.

Thanks again Hurdity xx
