I had a hysterectomy at 38 owing to a severe case of endometriosis, this included my ovaries.  I am now 53 and experiencing the symptoms of menopause such as moods, tiredness and a fuzzy head.  Although I took HRT for 12 years and came off 3 years ago, these symptoms are new to me.  I was wondering if taking a supplement such as Menopace would benefit me. 

Does anyone know?

Hi Joyzzeee - did you stop taking HRT because you were advised to? The normal way of things is that with a surgical menopause you are put onto HRT until the normal age of 50 and then taken off to see how bad your symptoms are. If you then get menopausal symptoms it is usual to restart HRT for a few years. The years you were on HRT up to 50 weren't putting you at risk of stroke or cancer because you were replacing what should have rightfully been yours naturally. It's almost as if, now, you would be starting HRT from scratch.

Some members have tried Menopace but I don't think they have had much success. You can search for posts by putting Menopace in the search facility in the blue bar at the top of the page.

I've found hot flushes to be the most annoying part of meno and it is always these which make me restart HRT when I have tried to come off!

Hi Taz.  Thanks for your response.  I came off HRT gradually under the supervision of my GP which was by mutual agreement owing to the length of time I'd been taking it.  At 53 I'm a bit reluctant to start it again as it would probably only delay the symptoms rather than stop them altogether.  My problem is compounded by the fact that I am also taking aspirin on a daily basis, owing to elevated platelets, so am not sure whether HRT would conflict with this problem.  I've been flushing for 3 years now, which can sometimes be quite unbearable, but the other symptoms have only come on in the last few months, gradually getting worse.

I shall give menopace a go and see how I get on.

I can understand your reluctance. I think that a lot of us are surprised that the symptoms go on for so long and get worse over time but this is to be expected as our own levels of oestrogen gradually diminish as we get older. Some meno symptoms such as mood swings and tiredness are down to the fluctuations in hormone levels but others such as hot flushes and vaginal dryness are linked to low oestrogen and this is not something that miraculously restores itself.  Maybe you need more specialist advice re the platelet problem and HRT should the Menopace not work?
