Magnets for aching joints.

Has anyone used magnets with any success for mild arthritis?
I have a birthday coming up soon and hubby has been asking what I want. I have seen some nice bracelets that have magnets in them and as I have arthritis in my knees and starting in my fingers I wondered if it would help.
I have used a magnetic collar on one of my dogs in the past with great success so wondered if it would be worth trying for me.
Any thoughts ladies or am I wasting my money?

Sorry, but think it would be a waste of money. Friend got one, her hubby said they saw her coming. But undeterred she bought one. She said it made no difference. I bought a watch which had some special crystal to help with sleep. Did initially, but think that was psychological.

As many people swear by magnets as those who scorn the idea, Cleopatra wore one on her forehead to preserve her beauty!
Here is some info

I am inclined to thing they do work but you have to have the right magnets some thing to do with polar opposites.

Years ago I went into it with great detail, one thing that I think that works is magnets in mattresses, they seem to help a lot of people, they are expensive though.

My dad tried a bracelet - it took a bit of persuading to get him to wear it - but, sadly, it didn't work.
What treatment have you tried for your knee pain Honeybun?

I use ibuprofen gel as I can't take anti inflammatory meds. Both of my knees are affected and I have had physiotherapy and acupuncture and also ultrasound. Basically there is a lot of junk floating around the knee joints but it's not bad enough yet for them to want to clean things up. My sister has exactly the same thing. She has had keyhole surgery to try and help.
The reason I asked was I bought an expensive magnetic collar for my golden retriever and the last few years of her life were transformed. She did not know she was wearing it so it was not physiological. She went from being very stiff to bounding about like a young thing.
I want to bound

My dad wore a copper bracelet with magnets in for many years and he did feel it helped him (can't say whether it was the copper or the magnets that helped though!). If you decide to try copper, the bracelet cannot be coated with anything - it has to turn your skin green to work!

Magnet therapy was used to heal non-uniting fractures in the 1980s. Swansea Uni did the Research from what I remember .......
If there are 'things' (debris) floating about in the knee joint the only thing that will help is surgical removal. Doing exercises to keep the quadriceps (thigh) muscle is important as this strengthens the knee joint muscles. So ask a physio for advice. They need to be done for 10 mins every hour
- it is the first muscle to atrophy when a patient is bed bound.

I've had arthritis since my early 30s. I have found it very cyclical. The only thing that helped when it has been very bad, is stuff from Jan de Vries (homeopathic). I have been wearing a magnetic bangle for the past 8 years. It was quite expensive but I have not had a bad spell since then. It is just a background ache. Occasionally I will take a couple of paracetemols but that is it.
Whether it is the bracelet that has helped or not, I cannot say.

Not sure about magnets persay but Electro magnetic energy as in the Bemer 3000 machine works remarkably well for any aches and pains.

I think that for magnets to really help they have to be powerful and the ones in bracelet jewellery may not work so well.

Thanks SL. I think I am probably going to be wasting my money. I don't want to wear anything on my knees as they are swollen most of the time and it would feel very restrictive. I have knee supports which drive me slowly mad over the course of the day.
Guess I will just have to put up with it. I feel like an old lady. Rubbish knees and now my fingers are going funny.
As I said my sister and I both have the same. My mother has nothing like this and she is 91. Guess the things that run in families have to start somewhere.

If your knees are constantly swollen then perhaps now is the time for treatment. Is the swelling fluid? if so it can drawn off by needle to ease pain and stiffness.

I have had ultrasound to scatter the fluid a few years ago and it was very successful. The trouble is the physiotherapist that did it has moved on and there is such a long waiting list.
Acupuncture also helped for a short while.
They have never suggested drawing off any fluid.
