Postal help
« on: July 25, 2013, 09:58:50 PM »

Need to send parcel to Oz in next few days. Anyone know a company who does it without spending more than the parcel is worth?. Everything I have looked up is £30-£40 roughly.  It's for my great nephew's first birthday. His mum wanted something from Next and Next in Oz won't accept a UK credit card payment as they deliver, then bill you like they do here.

Hi
Can I ask how heavy the parcel is (I run a post office) and if you need insurance?

I always think that sending by post is cheaper than taking it  ;)  Have you already bought the gift, otherwise if there is a Next in Oz, could the parent buy it - you can do a money transfer through the Bank?

Next in Oz don't seem to accept orders from UK.

Parcel weighs 250g Melanie.

With Royal Mail, it seems to be between £5-£10 depending on value. For 250g. Perhaps Mel can confirm.

I meant - send a cheque or get a bank transfer to the relative, who can choose in the Oz version of Next ........  :-\ they will be able to buy the correct size, colour, shape etc.  ;)

Sorry I did understand your meaning CLKD. I was going to send cheque to my brother then he could do bank transfer, but then I thought of my great nephew and the thrill of parcel arriving for him. Christmas was easy as I found an Australian company who accepted UK cards and delivered in Australia, but it was a toy website.
My SIL told me what size to get, so I managed to find something lightweight & suitable for their upcoming hot summer.

Well my scales not quite as accurate as P.O.  :o Anyway parcel ended up being 350g, must have been the ink.  ;D Cost £7.55 which wasn't as bad as I expected.
