Too much heat, high anxiety, Help...
« on: July 24, 2013, 06:42:56 PM »

Hello ladies, can anyone tell me if they feel like me? I suffer with anxiety dreadfully, a few months back I had to go to hospital for a scan to check out whether I had gallstones... I didn't, the lady who did the ultrasound test said she could see nothing wrong at all, the doc said there was nothing there and the ultrasound covered the whole of my tummy top to bottom and right round the back.  I have messed around with the HRT thinking I could feel better if I cut it back, (one tablet every other day the doc advised) it didn't help so I stopped them all together for 2 months, felt terrible, flushes back with a vengance, panics, you name it.... told doc I had to go back on it properly and he agreed... was feeling better apart from the aches I'd had round my ribs and waist off and on ... then Coronation Street thought it a reasonable idea to bump up viewing figures by giving Hayley Pancreatic cancer..... Now I'm in bits.... suddenly I'm thinking this is what I've got... the reasonable me says I've been checked out and I'm ok... Nothing in there says doc.... but, the weak, worry about everything me, shakes and sweats at the thought that just maybe.... auto suggestion says hubby, don't worry, stop thinking about it...  does anyone else panic like this, and how on earth can I stop it, asked for prozac but nothing doing... please someone reply....

Oh you have got yourself in a state.

Now think about this reasonably. You have had an ultra sound and this kind of thing would have been picked up so you are clear.
It's called health anxiety and we have talked about it on the forum before. You are not alone. Lots of us have it and although the sensible part of your brain tells you that there is nothing wrong the meno part says something completely different.
Today for example I have had a funny pain down my left arm. Now I know I have slept on it and it's a trapped nerve but meno me has thought it's a heart attack. The fact that when I move my arm around and it hurts means nothing.....It's my heart.

Try and do things to take your mind off your concerns. Walking is good or a hobby that you enjoy.

Don't know if it helps to know you are not alone.....but your not.

Thank you so much honeybun, I do get the odd day when I feel ok, but then I do all the stuff I'd been putting off and it's back to square one again.... I honestly think I'm getting worse with age....  thanks again for your reply, I really must try to pull myself together.

Don't give yourself a hard time. You can't help it and if someone tells you to pull yourself together then they don't understand. It's so easy to say and so hard to do.

Take comfort from the fact you had a scan and all was fine.

How far into meno are you and are you taking anything. I take beta blockers to help with anxiety. Might be worth thinking of a trip to your GP.

Keep posting, there is always someone here for a chat.

Its health anxiety as HB says, I certainly had it, but you do grow out of it, tell your self if it comes and goes its nothing to fret over, a doctor told me this.

The scan would have picked up anything that would have concerned the medics and you certainly would have been told.

The shakes and sweats are anxiety nothing more, once your HRT kicks in again you will start to feel better.

I'm 58 in November Honeybun, and was put on Elleste duet conti 2 yrs ago although I was still having the odd light period, each of them  probably 7 or 8 months apart. The only thing I do for the anxiety is use rescue remedy drops and roll on very infrequently, I also take menopace calcium simply as it says you can take 'em alongside HRT with no probs. Although I often ache, especially as hubby and I have to help father in law with his massive garden which he can no longer cope with,  I try to stay away from painkillers as they bung me up and I don't need any more hastle. Sad thing these days is I can pull a muscle just cleaning my teeth !!!  My doc (a man) who has been really very good over the last 30 yrs is retiring next week. Don't know what we're getting to replace him with, although I've been given a few pointers of who to ask for of the remaining docs. (and it's a lady) Thank you again...

Could the norethisterone in the HRT - which you are taking continuously - be causing or increasing your anxiety do you think? This particular synthetic progestogen does cause problems in some women?

I have suffered with severe anxiety since starting the menopause nearly 2 years ago.  I also seem worse when the weather is very warm and humid as it is in the UK at the moment.  Some days are a struggle to get through.  I am not on HRT as I was too worried about the side effects you might get.

Try not to give yourself a hard time, I wrote the book on health anxiety, I hope and pray that this will pass. This week, because I have had my first breast screen appointment, I have convinced myself that I have cancer. Everywhere I look it is mentioned, on tv, in soaps, in the newspapers, I see these all as I sign that some abnormality will be found.

Then when my tests come back clear, I will feel fine and carry on till the next pain, nip, flutter, etc etc.

It's all a rollercoaster, I want to get off, never did like fairground rides, they make me anxious.

I feel your worry, I believe that it will pass.

Thank you everyone for your replies, I was forced into seeing the doc this morning, (after hurting my leg and ankle 2 weeks ago when  flymo-ing  father in law's garden,) we went for a long walk around the Monarchs way path at Beaminster yeaterday on a trip out for work. 3 miles is a long way for me, but at home I felt a little better about things, till I woke this morning... a large varicose vein which had been with me for nearly 30 yrs had overnight blown up and gone absolutely rigid. It hurt so much, had to get emergency appt.  But it meant I met our new doc for when the original retires in August, it's a lady, she listened to all my worries and pretty much sorted me out. Vein is not solid because of thrombosis, it's the hot weather and my walk yesterday, prescribed (at a cost) knee high surgical socks, put me back on fluoxetine for a short while to sort my anxiety, checked my history with Elleste HRT and said as it was working so well before, wait till the fluoxetine has done its work before we try out anything else. It may be that once I've calmed down the HRT will be ok too.  Booked me in for another blood test to check everythings ok there too. Told me not to read health pages in the paper and ditch Coronation street.... so, hopefully I'll soon be on an even keel again... Love to all xxx
