Recently I read an article that rather than aim for 5/7 fruit/veg daily that we should now go for 30 a week  :-\

We eat: frozen peas; peppers; home grown frozen beans; frozen sweet corn all mixed with ginger and garlic - 3/4 times a week in stews/chicken stir fries

Chicken or beef curries with mixed veg and rice or naan bread

Tinned soups: tomato (me), chowder (DH) ....

Lots of soft fruits from late April to currently from out garden: black/white/red currants; bilberries; strawberries; raspberries

Home grown parsnips through the Winter months - I can't work out wether we get 30 a week or not  ::)

Yep, I used to think “5 portions of fruit/veg a day”?? How on earth am I going to achieve that  :o but, as you say, CLKD, incorporating fruit/veg in curries/stir fries etc counts just the same as chomping on an apple a day (and I do like a handful of blackberries in a gin and tonic) - does that count?
What are bilberries like? Never had those…

Of course it counts  ;)

Bilberries; blue berries which grow in the wilds in peaty areas chomped by sheep which leaves them pruned and low to the ground.  Ripen anytime from late July.  When sold in garden centres they are called - mind complete blank  :-\ - they need to be grown in ericaceous compost.  Rain water preferred.

I'm not cooking...my birthday present to me...and the puppy of course :scottie: Dh is making something with chicken, some kind of side dish, some type of veg, and fancy bakery sweets for dessert. All I'm doing is opening a bottle of wine  ;D

:tulips2: Thanks!  :) There were red velvet squares, strawberry custard tarts, and mixed berry custard tarts. I ended up cooking because dh was too busy watching Stranger Things with the boys, hence I opened the wine early and started before everyone else.
Today is youngest ds's bd. His gf arrived by bus earlier so they are having lunch and strolling along the lake.
More importantly, tonight's dessert is a chocolate hazelnut mousse cake.  :parti:

it is SO hot that we have been having salads, new potatoes etc for weeks.  i went into lovely cool Aldi and bought their Deluxe pizzas and some tubs of potato salad. We just had those for tea with some tomatoes and beetroot.  dead easy.
