HRT
« on: May 29, 2013, 09:26:57 AM »

Hi all can anyone help please, I am currently back on Climival 2mg after trying patches, its only been 2weeks but I am still having bad nausea and some headaches and also feeling miserable, Gp advise me to go back on the pills as the patches just never gave me a continuous flow of hrt, I have been having stomach problems since before my op but all they found wrong was an irritated stomach which only co insided with peri-menopause and still happening now, hoped going on the patches would help and was on Estraderm 50mg but I was changing them every 2 1/2 days and getting most of the symptoms back ,  Gp said in her opinion the pills are better and will not effect my stomach so I took her adviced and that was 2 weeks ago but still having the nausea, taking them with my breakfast but no difference, also taking Menopace and prozac 20mg, its been 5months since my op and was hoping to start feeling normal, do anyone have any advice, do u think taking just B vitamins will be ok not the Menopace     please please help    xxx

Hi moonbeam

I expect you are hoping to hear from others as I have already answered your query on your previous thread.

Really to say I still stand by what I said there:

1 You would be better off on patches than pills with stomach problems - no question about this

2 It sounds like you need a higher dose of oestrogen and a 50 mcg patch is not enough. They go up to 100 mcg strength.

3 Changing them every 3 days is probably optimal for consistent dose - not 2 1/2 days, as it takea a while to build up again when you change patch.

4 I would ask about testosterone as I suggested and if they won't listen ask to be referred to a meno-clinic and to see a gynae doctor.

You shouldn't have to suffer, and especially after what is in my view, inadequate advice.

By all means take extra vitamins if you think you are deficient - but a healthy diet is better for you and should contain everything you need if it is balanced.

Be kind to yourself as your body is still recovering from the op - even after 5 months and it will take a while to stabilise your hormones - but do please go back to your doc!

Hi scared to go back to Gp  as I am sure they think I am making things up,  I have had a total Hysterectomy so thought I didnt need Testosterone, when I was on the patch  and when it was getting close to changing it I felt I was not having enough  EG having the horrid symptoms again , so thats why I went back to Gp and thats when she  said the patch I was on Estraderm 50gm was the highest dose but I new that was wrong , so confused  and tired of feeling sick, burning stomach and headaches just want to feel good again.

Hi moonbeam

How awful for you that the GP misled you - presumably through ignorance.

I understand completely how you feel about going back - I've had to go back to the doc re stopping HRT and I've made an appt to go back to a different one next week because I'm a bit of a coward and didn't want to confront her, as I disagree with what she said!

Can you get sorted out what you want to ask for and write it down? Can you take someone with you or go to a different doc in the practice? It is in your own interest to go back. Sounds like you really need a higher strength patch. Try to get referred to a specialist as well.

Hang in there - it will get better once you find the right product...

Hi moonbeam - I notice that you are also on menopace and prozac. Some women seem to get upset stomach while taking the menopace and HRT plus prozac can cause nausea.

I agree with what Hurdity says - just wanted to mention the possibility of other medications causing stomach problems.

I am on Femseven Sequi but suffer from heartburn and stomach pains. When I stopped the HRT these problems disappeared but it was a case of weighing how I felt the worst - HRT and no sweats but stomach pain/hearburn or no stomach pain/heartburn but drenching sweats. I have been too lazy to try to find another HRT having been on it already for five years and coming up against the "off at 60 rule" soon  :(
